Good for you! By realizing you have a drinking problem your half way there. I come from a family with many alcoholics. Not one of them thought their drinking would affect them like it did. My father died from it. That convinced me to stop drinking. I know how hard it is. the peer presher and the illusion that it makes you feel good. Is it good to puke and/or piss on your self? The only "friends" you have are the ones that are as trapped as you and going nowhere. it doesn't have to be that way. It will help if you get outside support. Be around people that understand what you are going through. but the most important part is getting up enough inter strength to beat this. Ask God to help you. You don't have to be a bible thumper to have faith. Talk to him in your mind. He will listen. But you must also have faith in your self. I don't even know you but I know you can do it!

Yes Alcholism is a disease. And there is no simple cure. AA is a very simple program. Show up. Help each other. Yes you might have to attend meetings for the rest of your life. The idea is that you will have a support system of other people who understand what you are going through and will not judge you...even if you fail occasionally...the program is always there for you to come back to. There is nothing they can give you in rehab that will cure you if you are an alcoholic...they can only help you see the damage you are doing to yourself and others when you drink. AA will help you take responsibility for your actions and help you find a way to break your pattern. GOOD LUCK. And remember, accepting you have a problem is half the battle!

Yes, alcoholism is a disease. If you want to stop drinking, get rid of the source. Remove all alcohol from your home, and don't go to any place if there will be alcohol. Unfortunately, once you become an alcoholic, you will be one for the rest of your life.

yes it is a disease and yes you should go to meetings and yes you should look at getting into rehab...You will always be an addict but you learn how to control the addiction and why you have the addiction to begin with. After so many years of alcohol consumption you body learns to become dependent on it and that's the scary part..you need to talk with your doctor and get yourself set in the right direction.

yes it is a disease and i think you definately should go to some kind of meeting or support group also its a good idea to avoid any kind of social scene where people drink for a while until you feel you are strong enough not to drink and people say if you are an alcoholic you will always be as in once you have given up you cant just have a few sociable drinks. it might be a good idea to try and make friends who arent into drinking so that you can go out with them and have a good time and there wont be any pressure on you to drink.

Alcoholism is most certainly a disease and one that kills thousands of people, perhaps give AA more of a go, because the long term prognosis is depression, severe liver damage and in many cases death.

Yes, alcoholism is a disease. You cannot take a single drink. AA is the best answer and you may also need rehab to change the way you think and act. Save your own life and do what you have to do.

it's an addiction, and yes, you probably do need to go to AA meetings for the rest of your life. You also want to seek the help of a therapist to figure out why you have this addiction so you can stop the behavior.

You should probably stop going to places that have alcohol and throw away any alcohol you have in you possession and stop going out with friends that drink. STAY AWAY FROM ALCOHOL and if you really really want to stop then you will.

Yes, alcoholism IS a disease and it can't be cured. However, you CAN learn ways to manage it and stay dry. AA is an option, but there are also other ways of bringing it under control. Whatever you do, though, you MUST find a way to control it, so that your life won't be ruined.

Alcoholism is a disease I suppose, and is very addictive. Also as you have been addicted to drugs you sound as though you have an addictive personality. If I were you I would give the meetings another go and ask your GP for some support on giving up. It would also be wise to find ways of socialising that don't involve going to the pub: taking up sports, or going to the movies or out for dinner. It will be worth it in the end and once you've been sober for a short while it will be easier to maintain. If you really are an alcoholic then try all you can to get support, my Dad has the disease and had internal bleeding, and a stroke which brought on epilepsy from drinking too much. He now lives in sheltered accomodation with carers on site to monitor him and he is only just turned 59. Please don't end up like that you can do it. Good luck and take each day at a time.
