And that includes God... I sure do...

Don't worry. If extra-terrestrial life shows up here, we won't be communicating with it. Any beings advanced enough to surpass the speed of light won't be interested in a bunch of smelly, shaved apes (humans.)

You can sleep easy tonight because there are no ET's out there "waiting" to make contact. None have made contact, none ever will.

Think about it...the universe is 5 billion years old. It took Humans 5 billions years to get where we are (and only invented the car and plane 100 years ago). Statistically speaking...SOME other life form, if they existed, would have evolved in say, 4 billion years. They have a 1 billion year head start on us.. unless you're vain enough to believe humans evolved the fastest. So in 1 billion years time, they would have invented interstellar travel, and the ability to detect us here, and they'd be here already. So, no one is coming. It's just us. Kinda cool.

And you could call God an ET. He is not from this planet. But bad news there...He's already made contact with us, many times, many ways. He even became one of us and we killed Him for it.

Edit: Neil, Thanks. Makes my case even stronger.

You've seen too many movies. There is absolutely no reason, outside of the twisted minds of Hollywood filmmakers, to think that alien visitors would in any way be inimical to humanity. There is good reason to believe the opposite.

To Richard F: The universe is quite a bit older than 5 billion years, my friend. Best estimate is 13.7 billion. You are thinking of the solar system, which is about 4.5 billion years old.

Unless we're missing something very important about physics, we don't have anything to worry about. Faster than light travel is likely impossible, so we will never actually be able to meet extraterrestrials.

Safe isn't interesting.

Given the large distances and the speed of light limit, it is less risky than getting in your car.

There's no more reason to think aliens would be hostile than to think they would be friendly. More likely we will contact aliens than god.
