Muay Thai is one of the best striking arts for combat or sport. I would suggest training in western boxing also to improve on the hands (speed, combos, knock-out power, etc).
If you are going to make a move into mma then you'll need more grappling than krav maga will give you. Find Japanese jujitsu or judo (judo has throws of course, but also groundwork that mirrors jujitsu). If you go with bjj, combine it with some wrestling and seek more dominant positions rather than the prototypical "pulling guard" most bjj schools advocate. That move apppears to be working less and less in sport from what I'm seeing (that is my opinion, you may have a different one). I love it when someone thinks that pulling guard is a good idea (it hasn't been a good idea for anyone yet).

Essentially, what anyone will tell you (because it's common knowledge now) is that you need to be able to strike and grapple to go anywhere in mma. So do your best to train in both.
Good luck and train hard!!

Muay Thai is undeed very effective. It uses a variety of strikes in order to bring down the opponent. Some people say that kicks don't normaly work in a fight, they can sometimes but in muay thai you use knee strikes too. If you are close to him then bring your knee into their gut! Muqy thai also uses good combos to trick the opponent and knock the to the ground! But i would say that the best martial art for self defense is krav maga. It was created in Isreal (one of tje most dangerous countries in the world) and is designed for protecting you against all strikes. Whether it being hand to hand or weapons ut prepares you. But if you are able to join a muay thai class go ahead and do it.

The martial art is only effective as the person taking it. In general, Muay Thai training employs that one uses some damn good effective strikes such as punches, clinches, elbows, knees, shin kicks, and round house kicks, (Maybe more too).

Yes, if you apply the techniques right, you can blend it with anything you want. Remember, it's not the martial art doing the fighting, it is YOU, so that is the focusing factor of whether you will get everything to blend or not.

I have to agree with eXcS there that it is a very good martial art for punching and kicking and stand up fighting and to a lesser extent striking. It does not to teach some of the other aspects per say like use of the open hand strikes to the facial area which can be applied in a stand up situation or while on the ground and can be very effective in blinding a person temporally or injuring their eye permanently or breaking their nose. No martial art is all inclusive really and a good instructor will know and realize the limitations of his art and teach aspects of some others to better round out his students and give them the tools they need to defend themselves.

Muay Thai is a great striking art, however I have notice it works best for people who are tall and lanky for their weight class, so if that's you, go for it.

However if you are short and compact however, I have found that savate works better as a striking art.

Still, no matter what you're body type is, Muay Thaiis a great art to learn.

In some ways yes, it has very quick combinations, and yes it does blend it with other styles of fighting, but if you want to learn Muay Thai you have to have great stamina and agility to perform the moves. And you must also learn the advantages and disadvantages.

Yes, it's effective.

As a ring sport, it's a striking art that's second to none.

It can, however, be neutralized by a grappling art, as it has no ground techniques.

Krav maga is solely for self-defense, and it's very effective for that.

If you want to get into MMA, you need to know both striking and grappling.

Suggestions:

For striking: muay thai, boxing, sanshou, kyokushin karate
For grappling: judo, brazilian jiujitsu, wrestling, catch wrestling.
For a mix of grappling and striking: combat sambo, shidokan karate, kajukembo.

good luck!

it is effective, but offers little defense against a grappler. Also is the type of martial art that needs constant training and stretching to get it to work. While many grapplers would stop their training and still get their techniques to work since they don't need flexibility or strenght.

Muay thai is very effective, and it blends well with other styles.
