I don't understand what is so bad about believing in God! Really, I just don't understand! Concepts of who God can be are countless! I have heard no one who believes in God ever express how bad God is (...yes God can make me angry) but is not the good of the Universe "God's" goal? Just for the sake of knowing, what good comes out of NOT believing in God?? I don't understand...

lb_centa... see I believe just like you but opposite!! I believe is being good to others (BTW I don't read the Bible or preach anything I'm not sure how I feel about Jesus) and I believe in the good of the Universe, but I also believe that there is a spritual being (over and beyond all us humans) that aligns the Universe that performs real "miracles" in everyday lives. Why can it not be that GOD align two humans to connect in a way that changed lives forever. How do just two people connect in this great big world if there is no help from beyond... Can there be that many coincidences??

It's just that, for an Atheist, God is a redundant variable in the equation.

When people don't believe in God, it is not about there being some kind of "good" that comes from their disbelief. All it is is that some people honestly do not believe that God exists. Just like most Americans don't believe that Zeus and Thor and Vishnu are real. Atheists don't believe that ANY gods are real, including the Christian God.
If anyone thinks that it is wrong to believe in God, it is because they believe that God does not exist and therefore believing in God is an incorrect belief. Just like you might think it's wrong if someone believes that Europe is located at the North Pole.

Because atheists try to think of God as a physical being, a being who you can touch, see, communicate with, while Christians merely see that God is merely another name for Love. God is all love, and you'll see that as you read excerpts from outside the Bible. I admit, I am religious but have never read the Bible. Once you recognize that God is Love, it really does seem awkward that there are a certain group of people who "don't believe" in Love...aka atheists.

I suppose the same question could be asked "Why do some people feel like it is wrong not to believe in God??"
There is nothing bad about believing in God, in fact studies have shown that having a belief system often leads to a person leading a healthier, happier life. However, that belief system can be a belief in anything - God, Allah, Buddha, even science.
Everyone builds their own belief system on personal experience and knowledge.

Nothing's bad about God or belief in God. Sometimes people just treat others badly if they don't agree on a viewpoint.
Others do have the RIGHT to their opinions. But I guess some folks (on both sides of the God fence) think that their opinion means they can cross the boundaries and tell others they are WRONG for their beliefs.
Just because my beliefs differ from someone else's in this arena, does not give me the right to tell someone else they are off their rocker. I can share my view but that's it. But that's just MY mode of conduct.
Some people don't feel they 'need' God, or that God is a 'crutch', or those who 'believe' are 'stupid sheep'. That's ok. They have that right. Some feel that God is the way, and all the forms that comes in are broad and varied (from many gods belief to one God belief).
What would Jesus do? He would love hearing differing opinions and take nothing personally. When others were against Him, He just became silent. And he added, Father, forgive them, they know not what they do. (without sarcasm)
Oftentimes people get mean when they get scared, or their boundaries of security get dented, or their nerves are raw...
Hope this helps you find your place in this incredible controversial issue. (It isn't controversial to me, but to others).
:) Cheers and blessings.

If you believe that death is the end, and that this life is all there is, then you don't need God. If you believe that you have an eternal soul, then you need the love of God and His salvation thru our Savior, Jesus Christ. I'd lean toward having a soul, and trust in God's grace to save it. Why take the chance on there being a Hell? Christ died and rose again for the forgiveness of the sins of the whole world. That's good enough for me.

Sometimes people think its wrong to believe in God because they cannot see Him physically. They need physical evidence that He exists. As far as being angry at God is concerned, its easy for people to feel that way toward Him when life doesn't happen the way they want it to. They think that life is more or less supposed to be perfect when they believe in Him, not taking into consideration that they are the ones who make their life into what it is by their own choices.

It is because we live in a hedonistic greed based culture especially AMERIKA.
Money fame and lavish lifestyles is the new GOD. Beleiving in god is considered bad because it conflicts with the the materialistic culture. Kids today see religion as an oppresive concept that goes against the ideals they see in TV and magazines.
If the RELIGION told us to to have plenty of sex and with as many people as we like, and to drink alcohol all day and to love material things over people and to never think about the consequences of our actions but to satisfy ourselves at the expense of others THERE WOULD BE PLENTY OF "RELIGIOUS" people in the world.
The other thing is that some people IN MY OPINION HAVE A CHIP ON THEIR SHOULDER. They deny the existance of a divine being because somewhere in their lives they had a bad expirience associated with religion. Im talking about you athists out there,,,,,I can respect your opinion but some of you guys seem to have an unusually high intollerance for the divine and spiritual.
Lastly religion is getting a bad name because of the controvesies we see in the media done by the highest clergymen. How many times have you heard about priests/reverends and vicars in all kinds of sex scandals and living lavish lifestyles from money donated by church followers. THIS IS PARTLY WHY ATHISTS QUESTION RELIGION AND MAINLY WHY RELIGION IS SOO UNPOPULAR. BECAUSE SOME OF THE VERY PEOPLE
WHO TELL US TO LIVE PURE HOLY LIVES ARE THEMSELVES NOT PRACTICING WHAT THEY PREACH,,,,,,
I say this,,,,,,,any man even a man of god can make a mistake. But dont punish your relationship with god just because a handful of individuals dissapointed you or because society tells you religion is unpopular. Its up to you to seek your divine savior.

Too many people confuse belief in God to belief in "religion".
Atheists who push "God does not exist" mostly just want to feel smarter than you. If they know so much, hows come they can't cure a cold or explain heartbreak. They cannot believe there is more to life than they can put on a microscope slide. They have no reason to exist other than to stand on platforms and pat themselves on the back for being so smart, so scientific and cock-sure of themselves. But that's their right.
Think about it... Do you believe in God according to your own thoughts and experiences or because a church your parents took you to says "This is what we believe and it is TRUE!"
I believe in God now, but I DO NOT believe in religion. My parents church made me feel guilty constantly by telling me I was a worthless sinner and I needed to be saved and join the church or burn in Hell forever... and I was only friggin' seven years old!
Thanks a bunch Dad!!!!!
Believe what you believe and stick with it.
I believe a higher being exists, but not like the one your church wants you to believe, and I don't care if you're catholic, protestant, Hindu or Zoroastrian.
Don't let anyones beliefs (including mine) become yours without thinking a long time as to why you choose to feel that belief.

Right and wrong are totally subjective value judgments, so I can't really tell someone else what is right or wrong for them to believe.
In my mind, I think theism is wrong because it is a failed hypothesis. It's been postulated for thousands of years without producing a shred of verifiable evidence, so I think the logical conclusion is that God is either nonexistent or unknowable, which makes worship, prayer and other such attempts to appeal to God useless. And structuring our laws, morals and ethics around theism is insane.

I think it's because they feel that in times in their lives, they were let down by religion, and feel that for them it's easiest to blame God.
Honestly I don't know how God can make you angry. I know people are angry at God because the choices they made in their own lives didn't turn out the way they wanted and instead of taking responsibility for their own choices and actions, they find it easier to blame God.
Honestly it takes simple faith to believe in God.
It actually takes more faith for someone NOT to believe in God than to believe in him.
Take care and God Bless
Merry CHRISTmas
