my dog has been licking his nose a lot and its nose been running, he is wheezey lying down and panting a lot when walking, he is about 8 years old but in otherwise perfect health, can dogs get colds or is this something more serious?? (he has been vaccinated against kennel cough)
should i take him to the vet soon as i can? could this possibly be an effect of our wood burning stove as we only got it this winter? could he be asthmatic??

i usually overreact with my dogs heh. My "rule" is when i'm not sure, i wait 2 days and if whatever it is isn't better then i take to the vet. When was he at the vet's last?

Edit: Oh I didnt read wheezing. Ok my "rule" is also, if ANYTHING wrong with breathing, i dont wait and i take to the vet. Wheezing can be a sign of heart problems, which can be from anything..from an overdose or from genetics..

For the one who said that dogs cannot get cold... I can assure you that you are wrong! Dogs get colds as much as humans!
But take your dog to the vet as soon as possible. We had a cat who started to have this symptom and at the end of the day, he got the so-called "cats-aids",and died within 2 weeks. I don't want to make you afraid, but the only person who can answer is a vet.. nobody else!
So don't wait to go see a vet... especially that animals cannot speak.. so you don't really now what is the problem.

Definitely a vet trip would be best. Better safe than sorry. If the nose is dry and warm, then the dog is sick. Wheezing in not normal and could be something with the lungs such as pneumonia of other issues. Don't wait, go to the vet.

This is somthing more serious, if your dog is weezing and his nose is running a lot is probably something with his lungs. But i dont think that it has to do with your wood stove, considering that I've had one for years and my pets are fine.
-You should take your dog to the vet and get a check-up. That would be best.

Dogs can get upper respiratory infections; wheezing is the part that worries me. All the other stuff might be minor but wheezing shows your dog is having a hard time breathing and it might only get worse, especially if it's an infection. I'd take him to the vet.

Doesn't matter if he's been vaccinated against KC...he can still catch it (mine did.) I would take him to the vet as it can progress into pnumonia or be caused by bacteria (mine had strep,) so he will need antibiotics.

I would go ahead and take him asap. No need for him to have trouble breathing when it could be something easily treatable.

If your dog is wheezing and having trouble breathing please get him to the vet as soon as possible.
This can be a upper respitory infection, a reaction to a wood stove or possible something wrong with h9s lungs.

Take him to the vet,he is the only person that can give you a real diagnosis as to why he is like this. i hope he will be OK but do take him asap so that he doesn't get any worse.

Call your vet - s/he is the only one who can tell you what is wrong. No one on the Internet can.
