Stay or go? Accept or object? Believe or mistrust? Go wild or play safe? All plans and policies are flawed. All have repercussions and implications. We can sit and think about these forever, but should we think or should we act? Right now, you are beginning to feel a little overwhelmed. You feel that you have to make a difficult choice. But actually, you don't. The choice is due to be made for you by various factors beyond your control. You'll feel a whole lot better once this happens.

Jesus asked his disciples to spread the gospel without money in their belt. In Marc he tells them to carry only slippers and a walking stick. In Matthew and Luke even these are forbidden.

and:

AGAIN (guess he nearly lost his patience there) I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

This in stark contrast with the history of the church and its rackets, frauds of relics and "historical" documents, luxury, exploitation, colonialism and slavery.

and: Blessed are the poor,:

That is of course why so many American churchleaders are so rich, so they can let the poor go to heaven.

Christians know how to behave. It is a pity many don't practice the most essential points of their religion.

Have a nice day.

Herein lies one of the many paradoxes of religious/Biblical belief. The Bible said be fruitful and multiply...It did that respecting the idea that there would be more followers for the Lord/God-Religion. It forgot to mention that such a belief system would stretch and strain the resources of our home Earth...Hence we're overpopulated and have folks starving for a lack of resources...Glory to God?

I have seen folks that live in poverty give the last nickle they earned to a Church...They didn't even get a crust of bread back from that same institution. So for those who say religion helps the poor consider that only 3 cents on the dollar average for ALL CHARITABLE INSTITUTIONS including religious ones go back to the communitieis they serve. Unfortunate but true...Giving $$$ simply doesn't cut it.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

The Old Testament doesn't mention the lower orders much, too concerned with the top men and their goings on. Doesn't mention women or kids much either, animals are usually there to eat or sacrifice. The New Testament is much more politically correct, mentions kids, women and the "poor are always with us", rich men and eyes of needles etc. quite radical, but that's Jesus for you, not a stuffed shirt at all.

The millions of poor and homeless in this well-fed and greedy nation are there for all to see. But many holier-than-thou folk see but lack vision. A few churches in the large cities look after the poor and the homeless in modest ways, but to Americans who vote Republican and hate anybody who is different from them think the poor are poor because they are no damn good. If you believe otherwise, you haven't been watching, looking, listening. Consider, for example, the multi-millionaires Benny Hinn and Pat Robertson.

Christians of many types are exceptionally helpful to the poor. I was homeless for over 3 years and it was almost always churches that fed us and gave us things we needed. The wealth amassed by most churches is actually used to help the poor and is not gained by exploiting us. The televangelists are a perverse reversal of who should be caring for who and are not legitimate pastors

***HOW DOES GOD VIEW THE POOR?

The Bible describes the Creator of mankind as “the One giving bread to the hungry ones.” (Psalm 146:7) It contains over one hundred verses that highlight God’s concern for the poor.

For instance, when Jehovah gave his Law to the ancient nation of Israel, he commanded Israelite farmers not to harvest the edges of their fields completely. They were not to collect leftover fruit by going over an olive tree or a vine a second time. These laws were a loving provision for aliens, orphans, widows, and other afflicted ones.—Leviticus 19:9, 10; Deuteronomy 24:19-21.

Moreover, God commanded the Israelites: “You people must not afflict any widow or fatherless boy. If you should afflict him at all, then if he cries out to me at all, I shall unfailingly hear his outcry; and my anger will indeed blaze, and I shall certainly kill you with the sword, and your wives must become widows and your sons fatherless boys.” (Exodus 22:22-24) Sadly, many wealthy Israelites ignored those words. For this and other wrongdoing, Jehovah God gave the Israelites various warnings through his prophets. (Isaiah 10:1, 2; Jeremiah 5:28; Amos 4:1-3) Eventually, God caused the Assyrians and later the Babylonians to conquer Israelite territory. Many Israelites were killed, and the survivors were taken captive to foreign lands.

God’s beloved Son, Jesus Christ, reflected his Father’s loving concern for the poor. Explaining the purpose of his ministry, Jesus said: “Jehovah’s spirit is upon me, because he anointed me to declare good news to the poor.” (Luke 4:18) This does not mean that Jesus limited his ministry to the poor. He lovingly helped rich people too. However, when doing so, Jesus often expressed his concern for the poor. For example, he gave this advice to one rich ruler: “Sell all the things you have and distribute to poor people, and you will have treasure in the heavens; and come be my follower.”—Luke 14:1, 12-14; 18:18, 22; 19:1-10.

Jehovah God and his Son care deeply about the poor. (Mark 12:41-44; James 2:1-6) Reflecting his concern for the poor, Jehovah holds within his memory millions of poor people who have died. All such ones will be resurrected into a new world free from poverty.—Acts 24:15.

***For those hard pressed by ECONOMIC PROBLEMS—

Isa. 65:21, 22: “They will certainly build houses and have occupancy; and they will certainly plant vineyards and eat their fruitage. They will not build and someone else have occupancy; they will not plant and someone else do the eating. . . . The work of their own hands my chosen ones will use to the full.”

Ps. 72:8, 16: “He [the Messianic King] will have subjects from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth. There will come to be plenty of grain on the earth; on the top of the mountains there will be an overflow.”

Matt. 6:33: “Keep on, then, seeking first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these other things [material necessities of life] will be added to you.”

Rom. 8:35, 38, 39: “Who will separate us from the love of the Christ? Will tribulation or distress or persecution or hunger or nakedness or danger or sword? For I am convinced that neither death nor life nor angels nor governments nor things now here nor things to come nor powers nor height nor depth nor any other creation will be able to separate us from God’s love that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

The poor are with you always! That's what Christ said, when he was pissed with Judas for suggesting that money spent on perfume oil for the Christ could have been given to the poor!

Then there are the parables about getting rich - the merchant and the pearl, the parable of the talents etc. Greed is good, it would seem!

Sorry thumbs-downers, but it's all in your 'good' book, I only quote!

in the Hebrew bible you have to give a tenth of all your profits to the poor and in the 3rd and 6th year of each seven year cycle or shmitta you have to also give a tenth of your harvest to the poor and every year you have to leave a corner of your field unharvested for the poor and anything you drop while harvesting goes to the poor
