The major supermarkets have ducks - usual brand is Maple Leaf Farms. They're frozen and can be found near the meat department. Just ask the butcher.

I am a former chef and would check your local supermarket, frozen are nice, but if you can find a fresh one, that would be most likley at a gourmet butcher shop or a supermarket with a service meat counter, like Kroger or depending on your area, you know what is available in the S Cal area.
You might have to venture into the L.A Area or area market like the LA County on on Ventura Blvd. Also European delis/butcher shops are a good idea, a frozen one is fine defrost it like a turkey, in your frig, wash it and rinse the cavity, dry it so it does not boil, season it lightly, I use just a salt and pepper mix, start it on a high temp, elevate it on a a rack or a coil of aluminum foil so the fat is under the bird, 400 d F for 20-30 minutes then down to 350 d F for and this depends on your liking 45-60 minute for a well done and fall off the bone bird, even 75-90 minutes.
I like to use some of the duck fat to roast some small or cut potatos to serve with it, a nice side veg is red cabbage with apples, caraway and a dash of vinegar, this is a Swedish staple at Xmas or the feast of Santa Lucia.

If your area has a halal butcher (butcher who uses kosher-like practices to provide meat for strict Muslims), you can get a nice, fresh duck. Maple Leaf farms is a good producer, but always try for fresh over frozen

just check with a local meat market, and some grocery stores carry duck especially in oriental nieghborhoods, but generally ask a butcher in a meat market, if he doesnt have one he can order one for you
