..from a few answers, it is very much evident that a section of medicos consider this as a business...to reap what they have sown..what a pity...the NOBLEST profession has become the noblest [?] BUSINESS.
...prescribing very expensive BANNED medicines..unwanted scanning...a cup of oats for Rs.90/[USD 2] for a patient under sedation for a week [who knows if he eats it or not] all for the commission they get from the drug manufacturers, canteen run by them etc.,not to speak of the fees charged by dozens of specialists who visit...
...these sufferings are my true experience.
...the other side of the story is different; some charitable trusts do their best by spending millions undertaking all the expenditure and visited by charity minded specialists. In fact I undertook another surgery costing INR1.20 lakhs which otherwise would have costed me around USD23 lakhs in USA.[both the hospitals incorporate the state of art]
medical profession is not the only noblest one...people guarding our frontiers, firemen, train drivers and many more are also alert & vigilant round the clock.
....medicos,who COUNT THEIR RETURNS IN SHORT TIME, can better visit CASINOS where they have a better chance of earning money INSTANTLY over a cocktail !!!!

Those same surgeons spent enormous amounts of money and time to learn their craft...they have to recoup those funds, and they also have to pay for ridiculous insurance costs, and they have to support themselves. How do you suggest they pay all those costs without charging?
I suggest that your frustration should be directed primarily at insurance companies, it is they that are in healthcare to make a huge profit, not the practitioners.

Because the surgeons know well that he/she may not survive the ordeal, hence why not fleece them when you can.
