The thing I found most interesting about the Colorado shootings this weekend, was that the security guards at the chruch were armed and willing to kill someone. Gives a whole new meaning to WWJD. I think this goes way beyond hypocrisy, they were being hypocritical by having a massive megachurch with stores selling all kinds of cult crap, but armed security guards takes it to a whole new level.

First, I do think it is sad that people were killed, and I was not saying otherwise. Second, this is America and people have a right to be armed, I own two guns myself. However, the christian cult is constantly spouting WWJD and yet never acts according to those fairy tales. When the Jesus character came upon people stoning someone, did he pick up a stone and throw it at the 'stoners'? No, the Jesus fairy tale character was a pacifist.

Jesus always did the appropriate thing. Remember that He did not council Peter not to take a sword to the Garden of Gethsemane on the night He was betrayed. If the world were not so violently against churches, these measures wouldn't have become necessary. The sad part is not that a church had armed security guards, but that they were necessary.

I don't know anything specifically about this church other than there former leader gave into sexual sin and has been removed from church leadership as a result. But, I do know that the church I attend has taken a stance against the popular views of moral relativism, homosexuality, and abortion and in so doing the pastors and leaders have become targets of people willing to be violent in their protest of our church.

The church I attend does not staff armed security guards but we do have a significant local police department presence in and around the church.

Matthew 10:16-17a quotes Jesus Christ himself stating, " I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. Be on your guard...

Bible believing, truth preaching churches must have protection because there exists a credible threat in our society against what we are saying and doing.

So you think as Americans or Christians -- no one should protect themselves by having a guard there ??? They heard about the other shooting prior to this & made sure they had a guard there to protect the innocent--there were children there- they deserve to be protected from harm whenever possible!
Maybe you'd be happier if we did away with the military & police department as well- then all hell could break loose & maybe you could find irony in how ALL innocent people (Christian or not) be tortured or murdered or harassed....
Bottom Line: Even God demands order. And without people to enforce the Law-- there is NO order. Why do YOU think Christians should not have a guard protecting them?? So it is ok for you?? & not for Christians?? They are human also.. are you??

When I lived in Venezuela as a kid, we had armed security guards outside the doors of our churches. More than once, church members had been robbed on their way in so the church decided to post guards. Of course, in that country, you couldn't even own a home without it being broken into at least once a month, hence why most Americans living there lived in apartments with armed security guards.

So having armed guards outside of a church, ready to protect the people worshipping and praying inside, is hypocritical? Preparing for self-defense in case some nutjob attacked the church is hypocritical? No.

I do agree that having stores inside of a church and making a church a place of business is wrong and against God's will. We saw that when Jesus lost his temper in the temple and overturned vendor's tables.

As another answerer said, a smart one. Look at the world we live in. Children are not safe in school. Shoppers are not safe in a mall. Think about some of the mass shootings we've had and how many lives could have been saved if a responsible person had a weapon. God Bless.

What happens in our schools, shopping malls, the streets, now our churches. Every where you look it is on the headline news. I believe that the gunman would have killed more if he wasn't shot and killed. We are a sick society and shootings are becoming an every day occurrence. I have a permit to carry and every time I go to Mac Donald to use the bathroom I take my gun. Also a good deterrent in case there are Senators in there

Beyond hypocrisy not to want to die? With all the mass shootings, anyone in any crowded venue now knows they are at risk. Why does this issue matter more to you than the lives lost?

As to expecting God to protect us, I wouldn't walk out in the middle of a busy highway and say "God will protect me from getting run over." Faith is no excuse not to take personal responsibility.

Because of conflict & danger Yeshua himself told His
disciples to buy a sword, Luke 22:36 But now he who has a
moneybag, let him take it & likewise a sack & he who has no
sword , let him sell his garment & buy one.
If this was needed in the days of Yeshua's crucifixtion, how
much more do people need protection at the drawing near of
the end of days. Yeshua does not ask us to stick our heads
in the sand, lets not be hypocritical. Lets be realistic &
practical. I own a gun, I learn't to shoot, but I do not go round
waving a gun. I will probably never use it but its there.
