This is a good question. I find emotional things to be more tangible than the spiritual ones. Emotions are very personal, spirituality is more of a connection to something outside one's self.
At least that's what I think.

There are those who argue nothing.
I am of the mind that we don't know what the soul "looks" like. Who is to say we haven't found it all ready and just renamed it something scientific? The genome project is also FAR from done. I know most atheist are shaking their head at me right now, but the fact is that we just don't know.
And "emotion" is still a mystery in some ways. It isn't always a response to the central nervous system or we wouldn't have emotionally disturbed people or mental illness. We are an intricate package and we haven't come close to figuring it all out.
There is "something" that sets us a part. I don't know what it is (I mean besides the whole opposible thumb thing) and *I* choose to believe its the human spirit. *shrug

I hear people wrestle with the two very openly in the Episcopal church where there is a real focus on exploring faith in very rational and maybe even cranial terms. At least that is what attracted me to that particular church.
Blind faith relies heavily on emotions in order to sustain itself. I guess a lot of folks' spirituality is defined by the limits allowed by blindness, and that is fine for their spiritual development.

You answered this yourself. Emotions are a neurological process in the central nervous system., as you say responding to stimulus.
Spiritually, is controlled. Beliefs, This is what you are training your brain to react to. Totally voluntary.

I do not think they are separated. When I was religious I felt like by praying and being a part of the feeling atmosphere, it was the one time and place where only my emotions mattered and they were given center stage. Now I feel more like a security guard keeping a close eye on his emotions.

Spirituality is also chemical. People may separate these emotions in their mind and conversation, but they are all chemical emotions. Love is chemical too.

emotionally ... I dont trust my thinking
I can be a mess when I think with my heart
spiritually , I trust whole heartedly
I am strong and composed
I am unsure what the difference is ... I only know there is a difference
one is clouded , one is clear

I think a lot of people equate the two.
I can't give a good definition of spirituality, because I think it's a vague concept that defies definition.
