Alot of questions have been geared towards baiting atheists into the "Why would you celebrate Christmas" thing lately.

I've had my differences with alot of non-believers here.....and I know there are those who would rather I just go away.

But as Christians......why don't we reach out to the atheist by saying this:

"We love you........and we hope that you have a wonderful Christmas this year......regardless of what you believe?"

Thanks,

Primo

You know, I've always wondered why Christians get all up in arms about that. It's so petty and stupid, and such a weak argument. I mean, don't they know that Christmas isn't even originally a Christian holiday? The Catholic Church stole it from paganism and just renamed a few of the main characters so they would fit with the Bible names. I wonder what those people would say if they heard that my family doesn't make a big deal out of Christmas at all? That we are trying to slowly move our celebration from yuletide to celebrating the new year instead.

I think you are on the right track. I hope people have a nice holiday this year, whether they celebrate in a traditional "Christian" way or not. Who cares if they are atheists or not?

Thanks, Primo,

You're one of the more tolerant Christians in this section; thanks for speaking up. I'm not an atheist but an agnostic (read: left out of most of the back and forth or told I'm really a coward, fence-sitter or atheist at heart). Personally I don't mind celebrating Christ's birthday, even if I'm not a practicing Christian and even if the day is picked from a pagan holiday. It is the commercialism that surrounds the modern holiday that irritates me. The holiday brings out the best in some and the absolute worst in others. If we just had the bare-bones fellowship, perhaps with a cake that says "Happy Birthday Jesus" (and a couple thousand candles...uh, well, anyway), I'd count it a good Christmas. Most of my family doesn't send me gifts anyway, mainly because I usually don't send them myself. I actually prefer it that way. Every possession is a burden and a string and I have quite enough (too many!) Cheers and enjoy the season! I'm personally setting up in a bunker 'til it's over...

there is not any water there so how the hell is the tide gonna turn, huh? I guess they are going to kick over some 55 gallon urinals, in all probability that's what you're thinking. on the heels of that, it smells like that is going to flow on another .... oh .... what's at contemporary, Thursday, October 12th, 2 thousand six. Who stated .... " 4 extra suitable years! "

I really hate to throw cold dishwater on your parade but son Christmas is not a biblical holiday and those who follow Messiah should not be keeping it. To wish you a merry (insert pagan holiday co-opted by "Christianity" here) would be contrary to scripture and I guess that makes me a scrooge.

However I at least believe in the truth of the scripture and I pray that my brothers and sisters in messiah will wake up and realize how they've been duped and repent of this idolatry.

I gave up baiting atheist some time ago, its a fruitless endeavor. However if anyone is keeping the "true" spirit of Christmas it is they for they don't try to attach a religious significance to it at all and if they do keep it its because of the parties and the presents. More power to em.

I hold my brothers and sisters in Messiah to a much higher bar. Repent Brethren! The Kingdom of God is at hand!

I agree! Merry Christmas everyone, even if you don't celebrate it.

And Merry Christmas to you too, Primo! Have a good one!

Tzadiq, why do you think celebrating Jesus's birthday is a bad thing? It may have started as a pagan holiday, but it doesn't have to stay that way.

Thanks.

I'm not an atheist, I am a Deist, I believe in God but not Religion., Jesus or the Bible.

But I hope you and everyone has a wonderful Christmas!!!

Do I have to love you? I'm sure you're a nice guy but that's
kinda creepy. How about a cyber handshake.

I just kiddin' wit' ya'. "Brotherly" love to you too.

TZADIQ: There's always one in every crowd (usually it's me)

I get the JW/Pagan Christmas thing.

Did you know that pictures of men on money was started as a way to honor certain kings as Gods? In fact, in many civilizations, they put pictures of Gods on coins. In view of this being a practice that is pagan in origin, you need to immediately ride yourself of all your sinful coins and currency.

I'll dispose of it for you. I know the secret of making it Holy. I spend the Hell out of it.

Do you know how many thing you do each day that have a pagan origin? Ya' don't, do ya'? Didn't think so.

My answer to these questions has been pretty much the same.

The angel said to the shepherds, "...and on earth, peace, and good will toward ALL men."

To ask such a question neither promotes peace nor good will toward men. I would suggest they rethink the current walk they have with Jesus Christ. Are they being a witness, or are they being self-righteous? Are they bringing light, or promoting darkness instead?

I once had an acquaintance in college who was a Zen Buddhist. We used to have our little debates. He did not agree with me, I did not agree with him. When we were leaving for Christmas vacation he yelled to me in the parking lot. "Merry Christmas!" I then yelled back, "Merry Zenmas!" He laughed and said, "Hey, I like that!"

I say merry Christmas to everybody, cause it's Christmas whether you believe in God or not. If somebody is openly hostile to the idea I would then not say anything however.

Amen brother. God loves us all! Jesus said love others as you love yourself. When he speaks it is not just a suggestion.

Onward Christian Soldiers! We have our marching orders. Can we be genous with unbeliever Yahoos for this holy season, and beyond?

Hugs are free of calories, and good for your health! Here's a hug..."Mmmmmm"!!

It will be heaven on earth if folks love each other, and respect the Christmas spirit in the civic holiday sense. GROUP HUGH!!!

I will choose to remember whose birthday we celebrate, but I can take time to be wise and not look for trouble. GROUP HUGH!!!

God loves us all, even you mockerts (who drive Christians to distraction), and Jesus said "Forgive them". GROUP HUGH!!!

So in His love, we offer to all mankind the hand of friendship. "Holiday Blessings to ALL!!!" ;-)
