I am asking this as I am researching on whether the silver fillings (mercury) played a part in numerous years of being sick in the washroom, after using toothpaste, morning or night...I gag and choke on mucus buildup in my throat, I tried from warm water n' salt...Mouthwash, switched numerous toothpaste brands, lemon tea with honey...All that didn't help, I was still struggling and gag on it...
To find peace, I had to stop using toothpaste all together, I was at peace? Something is weird going on? Friend says she believes its the mercury silver fillings in my teeth---I am now bent on finding more info, is this proably why I struggled for many years, Dr's do not know why...
Now I am researching, n' hopefully some folks on here could share their ideas and experience with mercury silver fillings...Kind replies please, this is a matter of me desperate to find an answer to this ongoing problem.

Here's the 2nd pt I forgot to add on, and hopefully this would help more in depth. I have more the 5 cavities...For some strange reason, I lost my hearing in 91' and balance problems, bad reaction to muslce relaxant, am allergic to nickel jewllery & latex...Would all this happen because of the mercury silver fillings I had since 91'...??

Something else might be going on - I would find a specialist if I were you.
Mercury fillings are actually the most dangerous when you get them removed. When they drill out the old filling, they will transform it into a dust of mercury which is really easy to breathe in.
The newer silver (mercury) fillings are much better than the ones they used 30 years ago, but still not recommended except for deep cavities.

Amalgams or mercury fillings are 50% mercury. Mixed in with this is some copper, tin zinc and a bit of silver.
There's quite a bit of controversy as to what the effects of mercury are in the mouth in terms of dental fillings, so let me give you my story.
I'm a dentist who does not place mercury fillings as I feel that nowadays there are better and safer materials to use. I do however have to drill the old, broken mercury fillings out of patient's mouths when they are broken down to restore their teeth. In the process, I'm constantly exposed to the spray and vapor that comes of these fillings when they are being drilled out.
Several years ago, I became very ill and my medical tests indicated heavy metal toxicity (mercury) from inhaling vapor from drilling out amalgam fillings over many years. I had a complete physical and battery of tests done by very competent medical practioners. I went through hell for about one year as I needed to detox my system from the mercury that binds itself to the central nervous system. By the way, I was prior to this incident (and am today) a very healthy person who took all the precautions when working on patients.
Also, I am not an amalgam alarmist with my patients. If they have mercury fillings and they are fine and healthy I don't recommend they be removed. Only when they are broken down and in need of replacement and then I use non heavy metal filling material.
This is a short version of my story. For complete information on what the signs and symtoms of heavy metal and mercury toxcicty are, go to a search engine and research the topic. You'll find the information fascinating if not eye opening.
Best of luck to you.

yes they can!
I worked with a guy who was about 6'4, 260lbs. He went and got his tooth filled. About a week or two later, he started to feel flu-like. Then he started to loose weight and had no appetite. He was going back and forth between the doctor for weeks. Then they started even doing some crazy tests for some serious viruses.
In the end, and just by dumb luck, he returned to the dentist for a cleaning. He mentioned to a dentist that was assisting the normal dentist his problems. That dentist recognized it as being an allergic reaction. They drilled out the filling and replaced it with another type (which was white) and within a few days he started feeling himself again, able to eat and gained is weight back (note he was very strong, not overweight).

I'm very suspicious. Studies usually show no link between mercury amalgams and and any disease. The few friends (and 1 family member) of mine who've had their mercury fillings replaced with "safer" types never noticed an improvement in their health. :-(
You cannot be "allergic" to it, since it is not a protein. You can only form an allergy to a protein (gluten, casein, pollen, etc.).

QUIN,
IT'S A LITTLE KNOWN FACT THAT ACTUALLY 2-3 % OF THE ADULT POPULATION IS ACTUALLY HYPERSENSITIVE AND ALLERGIC TO DENTAL AMALGAM. THE SYMPTOMS ARE GENERALLY SYSTEMIC.
I'VE ONLY PERSONALLY KNOWN 1 PERSON WHO ACTUALLY HAD AN ALLERGY TO MERCURY.
THIS PERSON'S HEALTH IMPROVED DRAMATICALLY WHEN HER AMALGAMS WERE REPLACED BY GOLD.
