If I can't get my W2's until January,
I will be outta the country at that time,
how will I get them?
I would think it might sound unprofessional to ask my supervisor to mail them way outta the country for me.

Could he mail me my W2'S,that may not sound that bad,I mean rather that than having him going through the whole nine for me.

How can you do them "in advance" without a W2 form that won't be out until January?

Lots of tax software lets you file online.

You just need to make sure your employer knows wher to send your W2 forms to. Without them you can't do a thing.

(Don't forget state taxes at the same time)

Back up, are you a US citizen? Resident Alien?

If yes, you would file a 1040 or 1040A or 1040EZ and these can be done online and submitted electronically (subject to the software company accepting them for processing).

If no, you would file a 1040NR or a 1040NR-EZ. These can be prepared using software, but must be printed and mailed in. The IRS does not accept them electronically. The top software packages (Turbotax and Taxcut) do *not* have support for these forms. There are some companies that do sell such software. (Avoid any company that has you sign blank Power of Attorney forms, promises huge refunds and wants your refund check to be sent to them. One firm out there has been known to file tax returns that inflate the refund, illegally cashes the refund check, has been known to keep the money and never send the refund to the taxpayer...and is nowhere to be found two years later the IRS wants the excess part of the refund back.)

They'll have to mail them to you, pure and simple. There is mail service almost everywhere, or didn't you know that fact? There's nothing unprofessional about having them mailed overseas, it's done all the time.

You may be able to e-file through the IRS website, once you get your W-2s. Or you can just download the forms from the IRS website, complete them, and mail it in. There's no way to file early. The IRS won't accept e-filed returns before Jan 11 or mail returns before Jan 2.

Go to your local post office and fill out a Change of Address form. That way your W2's and other first class mail will (hopefully) get to your new foreign address.

You can get the forms online and send in your return from wherever you are. All you need are your W-2s.
