BUT DID HE SEEM TO ACT A LITTLE FUNNY OR ACT A BIT STRANGE AFTER THE MATCH WHEN MAYWEATHER KIND OF GRABBED HIM AND TOOK A PICTURE WITH HIM. IT SEEMED LIKE HE WANTED NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY PART OF CELEBRATIONS WITH FLOYD AS IF MAYBE THEY WERE IN CAHOOTS ABOUT SOMETHING. CORTEZ JUST HAD THIS DEER IN THE HEADLIGHTS LOOK. DID ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THAT.

I AM NEW AND I GUESS THIS IS HOW YOU ANSWER THE QUESTION ABOUT THE WAY CORTEZ DID THIS FIGHT. IT WAS A TOUGH FIGHT TO OFFICIATE, BUT HATTON'S CORNER SPECIFICALLY TOLD HIM THAT HATTON IS AN INSIDE FIGHTER, AND WOULD HE LET HIM FIGHT HIS FIGHT, AND CORTEZ SAID YES, BUT DAMNED IF HE DIDN'T BREAK THEM UP ON EVERY INSIDE CONFRONTATION. I THOUGHT HE SHOULD HAVE DEDUCTED A POINT FOR THE MAYWEATHER FOREARM TOO.

Actually, I was kinda disappointed when Mayweather seemed to hold back from shoving that forearm into Hatton's face after Cortez warned him about losing a point the next time he did it again in-between rounds. When Cortez deducted a point from Hatton for the blow to the back of the head, I was anticipating a similar deduction the moment Floyd shoved another forearm into Hatton's face. But Floyd refrained from incurring another foul and proceeded to pick Hatton's defense(or what little he had) apart and finally KO'd him in the 10th round. So I'd have to say, the idea that Cortez had something to do with Hatton's bad performance in the ring doesn't make any sense. If at all, Cortez did the best he could under the circumstances, although he had a hard time maintaining any semblance of order in the match since both fighters seemed to prefer to just slug it out in their own way and throw as much weight around without any regard to the rules.

Iv'e said it before, i think Cortez let the occasion get to him like Hatton did. I found it odd he warned/ penalised Hatton for every foul he commited, but didn't warn Mayweather about ducking below the waistline for the whole fight and his mass of forearms and elbows in Hatton's face. I don't know the real stats, but how long has it been since a foreign fighter has beaten an American fighter in Vegas? And WHY ON EARTH does the Nevada boxing commision (or whatever it's name is) only insist on Nevada judges for the fights? What have they got to hide?

So Elmer does that still mean Floyd is allowed to repeatedly foul and get away with it? Or do "American rules" only apply to the foreigner, and not the native? There's a difference in saying the ref had a bad night and saying it was his fault for Hatton's loss. Different Ref, Hatton still loses, but he still did more favours for Mayweather than he did for Hatton.

Yeah! Joe Cortez is a good ref, but he was a little too jumpy during this fight. I couldn't believe the point deduction on Hatton when Mayweather was throwing that elbow all night.

*LAUGHS*

Excuses. Cortez reffed the fight according to the rules of boxing. The trouble is that English boxing is so lax when it comes to the rules. But that is their "normal", so they get confused when Hatton's illegal tactics were curbed. In america, boxing is a science, not a schoolyard fight. Hatton was out of the kiddie pool for the first time, and drowned.
