my friend has been out for supper with me when he received a phone call from his girlfriend being afraid at home, she heard voices and people walking, he drove home asap at a very high speed, a stand alone camera caught him doing 160km/h in a 80km/h zone (100mph in 50mph). It was in the highway at midnight, there was nobody else on the road!!! What can he expect to be fined and do you think he's licensed will be suspended or worst get some jail time??? It all happened in South Africa

I really dont know what South Africa's rules are but i think any body would be doing that speed or faster under those conditions... i would check with officals in that country to see what are the fines.

Twice the posted speed limit?

He's lucky he didn't get thrown in jail and had his car impounded.

His being worried about his girlfriend was not an excuse the police would be ready to accept. If he thought she was in immediate danger, he should have called the police to check her out before he got into his car and endangered himself and anyone else out on the road.

No idea what may happen in S Africa, but even in the US, that would cost him dearly. The excuse offered won't hold up IMO.

100mph in a 50mph is nothing. Sheez, get a faster vehicle so the plate will be blurred.
