In Bethlehem, shepherds kept their sheep in fields from April to October, and kept them sheltered during the winter months.

According to Luke 2:8, the shepherds and sheep were in the fields: "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night."

Did those sheep escape their barns or something? Why were the shepherds just watching them instead of herding them to safety?

Because Jesus was not born in winter. Opinion and interpretation differs, but the most common analysis puts Jesus's birth in the spring.

Christmas was scheduled in December during the Middle Ages. It was a move calculated to co-opt pagan tribal winter solstice festivals, to make it easier to convert the natives.

Because it was September/October & he was in a manger
remember, so the sheep would have been in the fields near
by or further afield.
If it was December? While shepherds watched their flocks
by night all frozen on the ground.
Yes we know its an arbitary date, but WHY? with tears in my
eyes do we have to follow the crowd & materialism down the
wide road that leads to destruction.

You are forgetting that Isreal is in the Southern Hemisphere and our Winter is their Summer.
Consensus has it that it was lambing time and the shepherds were spending the night to help the sheep with birthing the lambs.

Because the Shepard saw the star in the sky that the people told others to follow to lead them to where birth of Jesus would be so they could bring him presents and gratitude for being born. So the sheep heard er lead his sheep to where the star was close to in the sky and found where he was being born.

Did you KNOW that sheep are one ot the most gullible creatures on the planet? THINK!... what do they kill? The animal was used as a sacrifice with the goat because of the fact that they don't kill. People are supposed to live accordingly. However, humankind has freewill which enables them to KILL.

Because Christ wasn't born on Christmas day however Gods word became flesh on Christmas and Jesus was conceived read Luke chapter 1 once conceived you become flesh .His actual birth was in September 29th.That's why abortion is wrong in Gods eyes because when conceived you are flesh and your soul is intact.God Bless you and yours and Merry Christmas.

jesus wasn't born in december.....the origin of christmas stems from emporer constantine, who in an attempt to convert romans to christianity incorporated many pagan beliefs and celebrations (around 325 AD). one of these celebrations was the winter solstice celebration, which he proclaimed to be "christmas" celebrating the birth of christ....on a side note constantine wanted conversion to christianity for his people for military reasons (he thought the christian god would do more to help him win wars) than actual personal beliefs. he in fact didn't convert himself until he was on his deathbed.
