Contact Al Gore. I am sure he will be happy to sell you some of his "carbon futures". If he has not used them all himself yet, that is.........

You're going to have a problem.

I grew up in Chicago when many people did just that. Many winter days, it was hard to breath outside because of the smoke. Burning coal was responsible for "killer fog" in London.

So, I imagine it's illegal to do this in many places. Also, factories and power plants that burn coal have to have pollution control systems, which would be very expensive to do for a home.

For the same reasons using a wood fireplace in many areas in the winter is restricted. Restrictions range from "no burn" days to prohibiting wood fireplaces (but generally not cleaner burning wood stoves) in new houses.

permit? never heard of having to have one. We have a wood burner in our pole barn. It works wonders. Coal is too expensive. Try wood. We also have a fireplace. I would consider calling the insurance company first before looking to get a permit. Some insurance companies will need to assess your home on it's safety after you install your stove. May make the policy go higher too.

You don't need a permit. Just buy a wood burning stove from Vermont Wood Stove.

This stove does both wood and coal equally.

why don't you just get a wood burning stove?

they heat EXTREMELY well, and you don't need a permit to buy or install one plus you get that awesome smokey fireplace smell.
