If someone had a news conference and showed a cute little kitten and said "We made this kitten out of dirt" what would your reaction be? Would you just believe them, or would you want some sort of evidence that they really did? Even if you were not a scientist, wouldn't you expect some kind of empirical proof? If something totally defies logic how can I accept it just on the word of someone else? I am not trying to put down anyone, I just want to explain why I need proof.

Tapestry, you have it backwards. The burden of proof is on the believer.

Exactly, If God created us he/she/it whatever should know that we are very logical and rational beings. We need evidence and facts in order to understand things. So I guess this proves that a God did not make us, or if he did he is very evil making everyone doubt him and end up going to hell.

Do you want proof of God's existence or of what the various religions claim God actually did?

I believe God exists based on such concrete things as order and design in the known universe and the theory of origins which says for two things to exist there had to be a point where only one thing existed (and for want of any better name I call that first thing God.) And it is just pure logic to me that if there had ever been a point at which no "first thing" existed what would ever have changed that?

Now for the other question of did God make man from dirt? Sounds a little odd to me but what does it matter? If the first thing was the only thing in existence at the beginning then what else can the rest be made of but segments of the first thing? And who else could have brought then into existence by any method other than sub-division?

So my Answer is all the needed proof is right in front of your face, you just need to look at it in a new light.

I'm going to get thumbs-down for this, but here's what I think.

First, I'd like to say that I totally understand where you're coming from, I really do. Having "faith" is hard for a lot of people -I'm one of them!- so you're not alone.

Since you're speaking of the biblical creation account, I'm going to give you a Christian perspective on it.

Let's suppose that someone from the present day went back to where the stories first originated. Not to the time of Moses, no, further back. The stories that tradition holds Moses as writing were oral traditions that were passed down for many generations. If you read Genesis 1, it reads like something that people once memorized. Let's suppose this person went all the way back to the time of "Adam" and "Eve." Now, let's say this person said to those people that everything in the universe, including all life, is composed of tiny particles that can't be seen by the naked eye....things that are even smaller than one speck of dust.

Can you imagine? Heresy! Sorcery! LIES! Right?

No, God did not form us out of literal dirt, though our bodies do contain trace elements of the same materials present in dirt. He formed us out of something considerably smaller...but something that people then wouldn't have been able to understand. To their eyes, there was NOTHING smaller than a speck of dust. But we know better, don't we?

When you view it from that perspective, it doesn't sound so impossible, does it?

And keep in mind that all atoms are composed of quarks. And what are quarks?...Sound. And HOW does the Bible say that the universe came into existence? God SPOKE it into existence! He said "Let it be" and it was!

That's how I look at it anyway. I don't take the creation account 100% literal.

It's not wrong, it makes sense.

You seem to be referring to Religious people believing in the Bible, or a God they have never seen. This is the Religion section.

There is no proof the Bible is true, was written by God and that Jesus ever lived, and yet millions of people live their lives based on things they cannot possibly know or prove.

It's not wrong to want proof. It's pathetic to accept a belief with no proof.

It's just the way humans are. We are a curious, inquisitive and doubting species which is why we have moved to such a high level of civilisation compared to other creatures in existence.

So if you were to say "I posted this answer through sheer force of will without touching the keyboard", EVERYONE will t... "hmm let's see, that's impossible because it defies everything I know, let me try and find how he did it and doubt him for now".

Everything has a logical explanation and if no explanation exists, then humans will find one.

By the way, did you know they took the word "gullible" out of the English dictionary? ;)

God can make things from nothing. People need something to start even if its as small as a mustard seed or blip of DNA. Men can't build a universe, a planet, even a live creature without material to start with.. thats why this world and the universe has so many proofs there is a God. I say prove there is not...the burden of proof is on the unbeliever.

The universe doesn't care about us and is therefore dangerous. The religious cling to their subjective beliefs to make it look different, better, but rationally assessing the situation can break the spell- It relies on observable reality too much to support the illusion of some super-parent watching over us.

have you ever tried kin counseling so the entire tale could be heard by potential of an independent observer? that is clean that if any of the adults are culpable for undesirable habit of their very own, no person is possessing it. It sounds like she basically has 2 strategies; performing 'good as gold' and thereby in a feeling being pressured to pass alongside with the 1st rate tale that she's the situation. (you spot what I recommend, if she's there for help and he or she acts good, then that proves the only situation exchange into her habit). Or performing out and be demonstrably undesirable. the two way she takes all the blame. that for the duration of itself can rigidity somebody loopy. I recommend you go with for kin counseling with somebody who's keen to take her thoughts heavily and confront the mothers and fathers if choose be. i understand this probable pisses you off, yet I had lots of issues at round her age and my mothers and fathers took me to a counseling middle at some point for ME to be considered and as quickly because of the fact the counselor mentioned they get counseling too, my mothers and fathers RAN (actually), no longer walked in the process the automobile parking zone decrease back to the automobile. (i'm going to never overlook it.) 2 years later when I made a suicide attempt they despatched me for scientific care. They nonetheless refused to take part. they does no longer even pass as quickly as a month, which exchange into what they have been provided with the objective to make it much less threatening. there have been issues in my kin. i exchange into basically the 'pointed out affected person.' yet heavily think of of the style you sense once you're indignant approximately something and you could not get it out. You never have a minute's peace. You never get your anger out if that is basically being dealt with like a situation, no longer something that could have valid roots with some acknowledgment of the others in contact. you're saying you're no longer abusive. i'm effective you're no longer. yet there are different issues which could be bothering her. you're saying she performs the sufferer place. possibly she has concerns that deserve an trouble-free listening to. If she has a counselor who isn't taking her heavily and attempting to relatively understand what's bothering her, that for the duration of itself ought to rigidity her loopy.

I once posed a similar question to a Christian via e-mail... They told me that I wouldn't be able to see the evidence until I believed in God... They said that there's nothing wrong with that type of thinking ("seeing is believing"), but I'm still going to hell.

Desiring proof is fine.

Failing to see the proof is a shame.
