When movies such as "The Golden Compass" comes around (holding atheistic tones) Christians make SUCH a big deal about it?! Please...can someone PLEASE explain...Same deal with non-atheist movies/books, like Harry Potter, it's a book/movie series!! It gives out good morals and teachings!! Why praise such a movie that just OOZES with Christian stuff, yet when a movie comes around that doesn't have such a Christian meaning (aka the Compass and H.P. books/movies) those that do complain and whine about it? Somoene explain please...I'm helplessly confused

Jesus- No I am not AN idiot, and yes I do not the meaning of fiction, hence why I don't put stock into the Passion or the Compass, I merely wished to know why people (who seems to be like you, perhaps?) are making such a big deal over an atheistic movie, when there are religious movies all the time.

ok, double standards time!!!! you silly christians can throw christianity down our agnostic/athiest throats until the cows come home, but when someone else with a different mindset attempts to exert his own opinion, you shoot him down with fiery crosses... i can't believe it... i thought Christians were supposed to be the "humble" group... i guess the christians are beginning to show their true colors. I dont have a problem with the movie... i actually wanna go see it to actually see the writer's standpoint. It actually happens more in life that the Christian is the bad guy in a situation, and that's all he is saying, i believe. and dont report me christians because i called ur bluff... :D

Ok, well, its a historic fact (contrary to the Jesus conference or whatever) that Jesus existed, whether or not he was God is up for grabs.
It is a historic fact that he was crucified.
So, passion of the christ is a history movie with a christian twist.
I just thought you would enjoy that.
Ok, well, Christians are making a big deal about it because it goes against their religion and tries to "creep into the minds of children, subconciously teaching them there is no God and that God is evil."

You are right, it is basicaly the same thing.
We must realize the historical difference, the movie the "golden compass" is complete fiction.
But the underlying tones push for God (the character) to be seen as evil. In fact, he is the ulitimate evil, and the church is brainwashing people blah blah blah.
Hello, making the church look bad in the eyes of kids.
Another thing is there is a Bible verse that says that your fate is better if you have a millstone around your neck and get thrown into the ocean than if you lead a child away from God.

So really, people can see it if they want to and not see it if it offends them.
I might see it just so I can talk intelligently about it.

It is a big deal because it is absolutely against christians.
People made a big deal about the passion of the Christ.
People make big deals about every religious movie, they all offend SOMEONE.

So really, this is just life, it is no different then any other time.

Religious movies always offend SOMEONE.

I cried when I watched it, butI have sinned probably everyday in some kind of way sicne, so it really didn't have too much of an effect huh? And I'm a Christian. I think it was a movie, not necessarily based on facts beause they spent alot of time showing the graphic beating scenes and just graphics period. Religion is something that is proven to have an effect on the human psyche in some way which is the producer's aim. Box office money has no religion.

I don't think their is anything wrong with Hairy Potter. Growing up I watched the Wizard of Oz and knew it was fiction.

However, my problem with the Golden Compass is the lies and deception that's going on behind it. His intention is to get these children all wrapped up in the movie and then by the the third sequel try to prove God not to exist. That's his motive. That's my problem. This isn't something that I just made up, people can read it anywhere in the news.

With the passion of the Christ you knew what you were going to go watch, there was no surprises at the end that were intentionally deceitful to try to change atheist children to God. You knew what you were getting yourself into.

My biggest problem is the sneakiness. In my eyes you can't prove that God doesn't exist... but trying to deceive my child... THAT'S WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM!

It's because they don't like watching movies that have an effect, or shake, their faith. The same thing happened when the DaVinci Code came out. Catholics went crazy on how they should boycott the movie becuase it was full of evil and incorrect information. The only thing that did was to create more free hype for the movie. I have a feeling more people went to see the movie because of that. People whine because the movie puts them out of their comfort zone. For too long movies have been catered to the people and their beliefs. When a movie comes along that undermines their belief system, they complain and whine. People claim to be accepting of all races/creeds/religion etc, but that's just a facade for their true insecure feelings. I think books/movies/shows that challenge the norm are good for society and gives us a chance to view other aspects of life.

I understand where you're coming from. However, I simply don't want to see "Golden Compass" because it looks stupid. I honestly don't have a clue as to what it's about.

As far as Harry Potter goes, Christians make a big deal about this because it started out honestly enough. Then as the books progressed, they got way darker. Now you have 6 year olds that want to see these movies and they don't need to be simply because they're so dark! The magic part, some people think it's real and will try it out, when that can be dangerous since you'd be messing with the devil and his magic. Also, the latest thing that pisses me off is that JK Rowling took a genuinely good character, Dumbledore, and made him gay. Come on!!! No one wants to hear that. It's riduculous.

Yeah, I know. This church or someone related to it keeps having Christian stuff sent to my place, and one is a regional Christian newspaper. In it is an article about The Golden Compass. The article's title? "A movie that tries to kill God 'Golden Compass' not innocent fantasy."

OMG! Why can't Christian people, if they're going to watch a movie, see the Christian undertones to it and not see devils and atheism everywhere? Why do they listen to overpaid evangelists who don't really care about them at all? It's sad.

The problem is the Golden Compass is aimed towards children despite its PG-13 rating, but when the Passion was released they were at least tolerent of others children and made it R.......hence the low amount of young children attending the movie during the opening week.

The Passion of the Christ is not Christian.
It's a childish bloody mess requiring a cover up.
It should be in the hall of shame, not hall of fame.
It's the equivalent of being made one proselyte.

I haven't seen The Golden Compass, but
the concept of a parallel universe is even biblical,
for converted Peter compares two allegoric worlds.

One person's comment on it is:
it's unlikely to fill theatres or empty pews

Hey this Christian family liked "Harry Potter" and although I discussed "The Golden Compass" I did not whine about it. I just chose not to see it. My dollar my choice.
