In Jude verse 9, he is called “Michael the archangel.” Interestingly, the title “archangel” is used elsewhere in the Bible with reference to only one person: Jesus Christ. Paul says of him: “The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel’s voice and with God’s trumpet.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16) The title “archangel” means “chief of the angels.” So it is not surprising that Revelation speaks of “Michael and his angels.” Other places where the Bible mentions angels subject to a righteous servant of God have reference to Jesus. Thus, Paul speaks of “the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels.”—2 Thessalonians 1:7; see also Matthew 24:30, 31; 25:31.

Michael is one of the top ranking angels serving God, one of the few that are identified by name in the Bible. He is shown in command of the armies of angels serving God; while Gabriel is shown more as an special messenger.
Jehova' Witnesses, who do not believe Jesus is God, say Michael is Jesus, probably due to Micheal's "military" role. but that is wrong, I compare Micheal to the highest general in command of the armies of God but Jesus as God and King of Kings is the Commander in Chief who rules and issue orders to Micheal and to all angels in heaven.
It is only of recent history that the Kings or Presidents (Commander in Chief) stay back while only the generals go to the battle fields to direct the wars. In biblical times the Kings went to the battle front with their generals. Examples:
* King Saul and his general Abner (even the prince Jonathan and his brothers went to the battles)
* King David and his general Joab
* King Acab died from wounds received in battle
* King Jehu
Even in centuries after biblical times Kings or Emperors went to battle with their armies:
* Alexander the Great
* Napoleon
* Richard Lionheart
Same with the armies of heaven, Michael is the highest general or arkangel, but Jesus, King of Kings will also go to the battle against Satan. He will not be back at a White House waiting for the reports from Michael.

"And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels battled with the dragon, and the dragon and its angels battled." -- Revelation 12:7 => Thus, Michael is the Leader of an army of faithful angels.
Revelation also describes Jesus as the Leader of an army of faithful angels.
"Also, the armies that were in heaven were following him on white horses, and they were clothed in white, clean, fine linen. And out of his mouth there protrudes a sharp long sword, that he may strike the nations with it, and he will shepherd them with a rod of iron. He treads too the winepress of the anger of the wrath of God the Almighty. And upon his outer garment, even upon his thigh, he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords." -- Revelation 19:14-16
The apostle Paul specifically mentions “the Lord Jesus” and “his powerful angels.”
"... YOU who suffer tribulation, relief along with us at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels." -- 2 Thessalonians 1:7
"For the Son of man is destined to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will recompense each one according to his behavior." -- Matthew 16:27

Michael the archangel, in charge of the hosts of heaven, the warrior angels. One of his assignments is to protect Israel.
Edit:
Alex....Michael is a created being, an angel who serves God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ is the Creator. He created all angels, the heavens and the earth and everything that is in the heavens and the earth. Period..
Edit:
Michael means, "Who is like God." He is an ANGEL, a high-ranking angel in heaven and he does God's bidding.
Adam, on the other hand, was a man. Adam's name actually means 'Mankind.'
Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses are in confusion about this truth.
