Ok! I spent a lot of time this year reading the rants from atheists, continually denying and knocking christianity.

So. Tell the truth now. How many atheists have told their employers that they don't want to take the Xmas holiday because they don't believe in it?

How many atheists will refuse to accept or give xmas presents?

How many will not eat or drink excessively, and avoid enjoying themselves more than usual?

It should be all of you. To celebrate or join in on something in which you don't belive must be the epitome of hypocrisy!

I believe that Christmas is a time where everyone stops to get together with family and friends... I don't have to believe in religion to celebrate this... It is very commercial these days, so I can join in if i want too?

Yes I drink on Christmas, yes I have fun... I love to buy for people and give and make people happy on Christmas.... Should atheists not be allowed to get married either because it evolved from a religious thing too? No, because then they would have no legal rights to say they wanted to be together forever and they loved each other...

I believe in the joy and happiness and togetherness that is Christmas, not the religious backings.... So what?!

If get a day off for nothing, why wouldn't I take it?

This does not make me not honest, I am open about the fact that Christmas is more about the 'Christmas spirit' than the 'religious' side of things for me... So what?

Call me a hypocrite if you like, that's your prerogative....

Have a Merry Christmas baby... Enjoy you gifts, which is not what the 'religious' holiday should be about either.... ;)

You would get a holiday regardless; Its not like Jewish people (for an example) have to work on Christmas. You get that time off regardless of what Religion you practice. If everyone got days off based on their religion, you'd see a large increase in whichever religion had the most holidays...

Gift giving goes beyond Christianity; Christians give gifts for Christmas, Jews do so for Chanukkah, Atheists do so merely as part of the Seasonal Holiday...

People tend to eat and/or drink excessively on most holidays; Christmas is not unique in that...

So your points are merely you ranting about nothing...

First of all the idea of Christmas was stolen by the Christians to celebrate the birth of Christ. Also it is so commercialized now it does now really revolve around Christianity. The giving of gifts originally had nothing to do with Christianity. It is just a holiday now, that somecan associate with Jesus if they want. These are reasons an Atheist can celebrate Christmas.

they are not really atheists. how can a so called atheist celebrate a holiday meant for the birth of an "imaginary" God's son? They are in it for hedonistic purposes such as presents and gluttony which constitutes a sin as detailed in the bible they so like to denounce as fictitious.

CHRISTmas is celebrating Christ's birth regardless of the actual date of his birth or the holiday's background. Christians are using Dec 25th to celebrate the birth of Christ and so many atheists fail to comprehend this.

They will use Christmas being initially a pagan holiday to substantiate their reason for selfishly obtaining money and gifts on the date which really has no relevance. They celebrate Christmas and they all know the significance of the holiday.

It's weird because they dont seem to celebrate Chanukkah hmmmmmmm

How can a person not believe in the Christmas holiday? It exists. Plain and simple. People take leaves for family time. Holiday. Christmas. Where is there a clause that states one must believe in God to participate in a centuries-old societal tradition?

Atheists also say "Oh my God." Is this forbidden too? Are they allowed to enjoy the tunes and rhythms of songs that sing about God or indicate the existence of Him?

Family tradition leads atheists to celebrate the holiday.

I am not a Christan nor am I an atheist. I am a pagan. So am I upset that the Christians stole my holiday and made it their own? No. The point of the holidays is to be with those you love and to celebrate life. Not to bicker about who owns what. I attached a link showing that many cultures throughout time have celebrated this time of year. It is not an exclusive Christian holiday and I believe that everyone should have time off to celebrate regardless of what your religion is.

To answer your questions, there are lots of honest Atheists out there. To answer the other questions:

No, I have not asked to work that day
Yes, I will refuse presents because I'm not greedy
No, I will not eat or drink excessively

An I do enjoy myself more than usual because I'll be with my family.

Seeing how Christmas is a legal holiday, even if I wanted to work it, I wouldn't be able to because the building would be closed.

I did, in the past, work for a company that was open during Christmas and I did work that day, so I have no qualms doing it.

As for accepting gifts, I don't think that has anything to do with the birth of Christ. In fact, trees, Dec. 25th and Christmas itself has nothing to do with the birth of Christ.

But, still.. I don't celebrate it. As a Christian, why do you? It's Pagan, you know.

Heidavey is right. Christmas has nothing to do with the Christians or Jesus, he wasn't even born until spring according to most research. It was Saturnalia but the Christians needed something to get people to join them. And Jesus was Jewish. But yes I am an atheist and I celebrate Christmas, yes I accept and give gifts. Even other religions celebrate Christmas even if it overlaps with their religious events.

I take December 25 off work to celebrate the winter solstice (it's a couple of days late, but I can't work on the 25th anyway).

I actually did tell my employer I'd work on Christmas, but she's not opening the office and there won't be anything to do. She doesn't want to pay me for just going in and doing nothing, so I can't work.
