No it's not. It can even damage PS3, because it'll screw up the designed air flow. Just keep 10cm distance between PS3 and walls. PS3 has it's own antiheat protection - if it'll get too hot - it'll turn itself off.

It may help a little. I think they designed it so the core temps. on the cpu's inside stay cool enough. If it is running hot and you need it then get it. When the core temps. are to hot then games may slow because it is to hot for processors to run. I really doubt you need the fan. If you have your PS3 standing alone by itself and it is not being sandwiched in between other components picking up there heat, then you don't need it. Save your money and put it toward Call Of Duty 4.

not really as the ps3 has its own fan has been speicaly designed to stop over heating. To much cold may even slow ur system down

I assume you referring to the cooling fan add on, if so then no not worth it, such devices usually interfere with the systems own cooling system making the console warmer.
As long as the console gets plenty of airflow around it I wouldnt worry about overheating issues.

yes because with all the new technology on the ps3 unlike the ps2 like the blueray dvd player and better graphics it will stop it from freezing like what happened on the small ps2 cos it had no fan but there meant to be quiter on the ps3

No, it is a waste of money. I got a stand for mine so I can stand it upright and it never gets hotter than it should do, because it has good airflow all around it. lol
