Please attempt to use the proper terminology if you want a correct answer.
The .45 Colt cartridge is a rimmed straight cased cartridge with a length if 1.285" . the original projectile was a .454 diameter bullet with a weight of 255 grains.
The .45 ACP is a rimless cartridge of .898". It was originally loaded with a 230 grain .451 diameter projectile.
If in fact you are asking if the .45 Colt cartridge will fit a .45 ACP chambered pistol, the answer is no.
If however you are asking if the projectile from a .45 Colt can be loaded into the .45 ACP case, Yes it can. It takes up a lot more room inside the cartridge case allowing less powder to be used.
I attempted to use these projectiles for my Govt. issued .45 ACP but gave up as the powder/ bullet combination could not be balanced to my satisfaction.
Several people here have used the term "Long Colt' but that is a mis-nomenclature. The .45 Colt never had a 'Short' or 'Long' casing or chambering.
Most of the confusing was created from the .38 Colt Which had cartridges including the .38 Colt Short and .38 Colt Long. But again, there never was a designation of .45 Long Colt, much less a .45 Short Colt. it is simply .45 Colt.

Nope, won't fit. I am assuming that, like a lot of people , when you use the term "bullet" you are actually talking about a "cartridge". Even if you lengthened the chamber so that a .45 Long Colt could be shoved into it, the slide, ejection port, magazine and so many other parts would not be big enough to handle the extra length of the .45 Long Colt. If, on the other hand, you are using the term "bullet" correctly to mean the projectile itself, then the answer is still no because the .45 Long Colt bullet is .456 inches in diameter and the .45 acp is .452 inches in diameter. In either instance, the .45 Long Colt is too big to ever fit into a M1911.

Actually CIH, lots of gunmakers are now making .45 LC revolvers with .452 bores, rather than the traditional .454" bores. Likewise, many bullet makers are marketing bullets for the .45 LC in .452" diameter.

What is really maddening is the lack of uniformity in older .45 LC bores and cylinder mouths. Sizes ranged from .451" to the .456" you mentioned, with .454" being the average. Even Colt and Ruger were at one time or another guilty of varying .45 LC bores. I know one guy who actually makes a living opening up too tight cylinder mouths, mainly for .45 LC revolvers.

To take a stab at the question:

If you mean the actual projectile, if it is of the proper diameter, it will fit in the cartridge case, but you will loose lots of powder room, and you are likely to have chambering and headspace problems. I'd say it is not worth the effort. The M-1911 .45 ACP was designed to use 230 grain or lighter bullets and is not designed to chamber or reliably feed heavier revolver bullets.

If you meant a loaded .45 LC cartridge, it won't fit in an M-1911 for all the reasons CIH and others gave.

Well the 45 Long Colt casing would be to big for the 1911 to handle. If they made a 1911 that could chamber that longer casing then I could see that happening but the problem with that is who is gonna buy them?
With a round like a 45 Long Colt the pistol would then turn into a Desert Eagle. The pistol would then jam and give problems.

Not at all. Consider instead the new .50 GI which not only gives you a heavier bullet but also a much wider slug than the old .45 acp.

Best.

You stopped on your affirmation too speedy. it would have been impossible to substantiate that the .40 5 Colt does not strengthen greater tension than the .410. The handgun around makes lots greater tension than a .410 shotgun around and it would be rather available which you will have a speedy self disassemble of a shotgun which you subjected to a handgun around tension.

You are talking about two different things. The .45 Colt is a revolver round, and the ,45 ACP is a semi auto round. They are NOT interchangeable.
