An engagement party is a close knit group of people they find they want to share it with. It is not customary to invite entire families unless they are relatives of the bride/groom. They also have to think about the cost of the meals and thier budget...maybe not inviting your son meant grandma could come too...when they are fitting the bill--you don't decide who comes

There must be a reason why they don't want to invite your son. He could be potentially disruptive to the dinner. If you feel offended, you have all the right not to accept.

it depends on who has invited u ? if it is your first cousins then u shopuld not accept as your son should come first for u. as these relatives dont care for your son u should not care for them.
