An engagement party is a close knit group of people they find they want to share it with. It is not customary to invite entire families unless they are relatives of the bride/groom. They also have to think about the cost of the meals and thier budget...maybe not inviting your son meant grandma could come too...when they are fitting the bill--you don't decide who comes

There must be a reason why they don't want to invite your son. He could be potentially disruptive to the dinner. If you feel offended, you have all the right not to accept.

How old is this son, is he an adult? Are there other siblings who were invited about the same age? Come on, give some information.

Do the people know your other son? I would probably go, they are free to invite who they want.

How old is your son?
I'd accept it. Do they engaged couple know your son? Do they know him well? Do they know you well?
