when the Hamas Charter openly states: 'Israel will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.'?
Hamas wants to destroy Israel and openly admits it:
ARTICLE 28
'The Arab states surrounding Israel are required to open their borders to the Jihad fighters, the sons of Arab and Islamic peoples...'
AND perhaps most tellingly:
'*** 'Israel, by virtue of being Jewish and of having a Jewish population, defies Islam and the Muslims.'
ARTICLE 7
'...The Prophet, prayer and peace be upon him, said: 'The Time will not come until Muslims will fight the Jews (and kill them); until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry ;O Muslim, there is a Jew hiding behind me,come and kill him!'
ARTICLE 13
'Peace initiatives and international conferences... are all contrary to the beliefs of the Islamic Resistance Movement.'

Jordan has banned Hamas - yet Israel is supposed to somehow negotiate with Hamas even as it launches rocket attacks from its' stronghold in Gaza.
In June 2002, Human Rights Watch stated that Hamas leaders and members 'should be held accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity.'
In the Hamas paper, Al-Risalan, April 23, 2007, writer Kan'an Ubayd stated: '...the extermination of Jews is good for the inhabitanats of the world...'
Hamas co founder Abdel Aziz al-Rantissi, said that the goal is to 'remove Israel from the map.' (The Guardian, Jan 20, 2006)

And PLEASE ANSWER my other question about how it was the Arab world that prevented partition, not the Israelis!

TAMARIND, but you don't address the question. Could you negotiate with a person who stated that you had no right to even exist? Who was dedicated to killing you?

You cannot negotiate with someone who's main goal is your destruction. The best you can hope for is a temporary peace until they can build up enough strength to wipe you off the map. Sadly the only way to deal with this insanity is to wipe them out first.
The world is being very naive in thinking there is any other way.

Mark, if I'm not mistaken Hamas was elected democratically by the Palestinian people to the premiership. Does this, as the government, not make them the highest institution and thus the natural discussion partner? And as many have already pointed out, the PLO charter also calls for the destruction of Israel, and began attempting to accomplish this goal 3 years before the occupation you blame for everything began (i.e. the PLO was founded in 1964, Six Day War happened in 1967).
Israel cannot and should not negotiated with Hamas. In my opinion, since Fatah has little to no power and does not represent the Palestinian people, Israel should not negotiate with them either. When there is a representative government willing to accept Israel, only then will there be a negotiation partner.

they might't that's the full reason israel isn't retreating! And reliable for them! For a while that they had 'peace', in this peace what happend? Hamas saved attacking? SO kill em regrettably civilians die in conflict. that's a tragic reality, yet once you reside in a rustic, that helps a team like hamas, then you definately must be prepared to die on your united states of america, civilian or no longer. I ought to assert however, RIP to those that somewhat had to circulate away their united states of america, and hated hamas.

Who said that Israel should negotiate with HAMAS or any other Palestinian political party.
Israel should negotiate with the PLO only.
With the same talking ,should the PLO negotiate with the Israeli wright wing parties who refuse the existence of any Palestinian rights. negotiations take place only between the highest political institutions in both countries in the Palestinian case, it is the PLO not Hamas or Fatah party.
PB: My point is Hamas is only a political party .
I did answer your question sorry you did not have the time to read it.
Edit: MJ. The Israeli parliamentary government is made of right wing parties who deny the Palestinian right to exist. Should the world demand that the Israeli government and all Israeli political parties recognize the right of Palestine to exist too before any negotiations.
The Israeli-Palestinians negotiations is done with PLO not with PNA not with Hamas or Fatah. Is this point clear to you if not please check it out for more clarification if you care to know the truth.
Edit: Finally, read what the Israeli leaders have said about the Native people of Palestine.
"We must do everything to ensure they [the Palestinian refugees] never do return... The old will die and the young will forget."-David Ben-Gurion, in his diary, July 18, 1948, quoted in Michael Bar Zohar's "Ben-Gurion: the Armed Prophet," Prentice-Hall, 1967, p. 157.
"We must use terror, assassination, intimidation, land confiscation, and the cutting of all social services to rid the Galilee of its Arab population." - David Ben-Gurion, May 1948, to the General Staff. From Ben-Gurion, A Biography, by Michael Ben-Zohar, Delacorte, New
York 1978.
"There is no such thing as a Palestinian people... It is not as if we came and threw them out and took their country. They didn't exist." - Golda Meir, statement to The Sunday Times, 15 June, 1969.
"The state of Israel must invent dangers, and to do this it must adopt the methods of provocation and revenge.... And above all, let us hope for a new war with the Arab countries so that we may finally get rid of our troubles and acquire our space." -From the diary of Moshe Sharett, Israeli's first Foreign Minister from 1948-1956, and Prime Minister from 1954-1956.
"[The Palestinians] are beasts walking on two legs."-Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, speech to the Knesset, quoted in Amnon Kapeliouk, "Begin and the 'Beasts,"' New Statesman, June 25, 1982.
"(The Palestinians) would be crushed like grasshoppers ... heads smashed against the boulders and walls." - Isreali Prime Minister (at the time) Yitzhak Shamir in a speech to Jewish settlers New York Times April 1, 1988
"I would have joined a terrorist organization." - Ehud Barak's response to Gideon Levy, a columnist for the Ha'aretz newspaper, when Barak was asked what he would have done if he had been born a Palestinian.

i asked this question to a european "peace" worker who replied, "well, not all of the local Hamas organizations believe Israel shouldn't exist."
so i said, "why did they sign the charter then, it's a pretty big statement to sign onto if you don't believe in it and it makes people less sympathetic to their cause. and how do you know anyways?"
and she said, "i met with them, and they said they didn't."
i replied, "uh, huh. so when are you leaving israel?"
and she said, "oh, in a few days, i have to go to sudan (there's another crisis in a faraway land i can poke my nose in, use my superior european sensibility to tell everyone else how to live, and then i'll jet back to my euro-flat and watch television, eat some meat, and then sleep on my comfortable spring bed)."

yep its hard to negotiate with terrorists and fanatics, but it must be done if u want peace.
how can israel do it? maybe thinking back on the origins of present day israel would help. after all, israel was created with the contribution of terrorist organizations like irgun and stern gang. so as their pro-zionist terroristic strategies have been set aside, hamas anti-zionist terroristic strategies might be as well.

Israel is being pressed by the nations into negotiating with HAMAS, but any 'peace' that comes out of it will only be temporary. The will only make peace on their terms, whilst preparing to launch future attacks to demolish their enemies.
Do you remember when Saddam Hussein was killing the Iraqi Kurds and they were trying to escape over the mountains and so Prime Minister John Major of the UK said he would guarantee 'safe havens' for them? Well, that'll probably be what happens with the Israelis - they'll guarantee them security in the remaining tiny parcel of land the Jewish state has got in return for giving over more 'land for peace'. But it won't stop the Arabs attacking, when they are ready. They will come over the mountains of Israel, so watch it if ever the Golan is handed back! Watch Damascus, too, for it is due to be destroyed (Isa. 17:1-3), probably by Israeli counter-attack.
The trouble is, peace long term won't work, because these people have an ancient and intractable hate. Only G-d can deal with them permanently. When will the Jewish leaders ever realise this? When will they stand against the pressures of the western politicians and say 'enough is enough'? - because this present administration is selling out the Israeli people 'hook, line and sinker'.
Are the Jewish leaders unaware that islamist arabs only make 'peace' agreements for a maximum of seven years (see Daniel ch.9:27) - the exact number of years yet remaining to the Jewish people to fulfil the prophecy of 'the time of Jacob's trouble' (Jer. 30:7). Come on, you quick Jewish people - work it out!
There will be no peace for Israel until Messiah comes and so, when we pray for the peace of Israel, that is what we are, in fact, praying for, for 'Shiloah' to come. When he comes, he will put an end to wars and will establish his Kingdom with its centre at Jerusalem and every nation will go to it to keep the feast of Tabernacles (Zech.14:6), for God will be dwelling with us (Isa. 7:14, 8:8).
It is time for the Jewish people to look to their G-d, the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who has surely promised in his Word to deliver them. Although fearful times will come upon them, in which the survival of the nation with be apparent to all people (that their survival rests entirely in G-d's hands), yet he has promised that they will never cease to be a nation, and he will arise to deliver them (Am.1:2, Ob.1:17) for he has promised:
' If those ordinances (of the sun, moon and stars) depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever' (Jer 31:36).

The short answer is that it can't. Saying anymore on the subject is a waste of words. I notice that all the responders to your question who promote negotiations have one thing in common, they cannot give a viable answer as to how to make the sides agree and actually adhere to any agreement reached.
