So, what happens to all the innocent people being held by the Taliban in those towns when you bomb them all flat?

You question rant is as ignorant as you.
Their are not enough Afghani or coalition forces on the ground to take an hold the entire of Afghanistan, village by village, town by town, city by city.
Bomb everything flat, and what happens to the innocent civilians caught in the middle? where do you propose to put them.
The Taliban re-infiltrate areas after they have been declared quiet, they intimidate the local population to feed and shelter them, and move their supplies.
Perhaps you should join in the fight by volunteering to go over there, because after you bomb an area flat you still have to put boots on the ground to control it, and in a country as rugged as Afganistan that going to take a lot of boots.

The more people you kill in counter insurgency the faster you loose the support of the people.
We have the support of the people in Afghanistan. They may not like us but they know they don't like the Taliban (they would shoot you if you were to smile in public).
Bombing villages flat would not help things

Read the 3 Para account of their tour. They were taking and retaking the same ground. The Taliban are a very resouceful bunch and will simply drift away. There is no logic in them standing and fighting. We've never won an Afghan war and we can't win this one.

You're right. This is so stupid.
But I'm talking about your solution to bomb "any towns held by no taliban" flat.
Your words, not mine.

Simplistic solutions to complex problems rarely work. The Afghani people are not our enemy and we will lose the war if we lose the battle for the hearts and minds of the Afghani people. This war isn't about towns, it is about ideology.
