The ice from the freezer tastes weird, kind of like freezer burn, and every time it starts to melt in the glass, I have to dump my glass of water.

The "change filter" light isn't on so I don't know what's going on.

I've heard of putting a box of baking soda in a frig but not in a freezer and the ice catch tray from the ice maker doesn't have enough room to put one in there.

I forgot to add that the water you get from the frig/freezer doesn't taste weird. Just the ice.

The baking soda won't hurt the situation but I dont think it is gonna fix it either. Did you put something hot in there that would introduce steam? Is something not sealed well? Was something spilled in there? Maybe something was put in there for a little while while unwrapped?
I suggest you start from scratch.... take everything out clean it and the problem should go away.

Baking soda! Always keep a box or two of baking soda in the frig and the freezer. Just put it in the back or on a shelf or anywhere in the freezer. I even have one in my deep freezer on the porch! It absorbs orders fabulously! Every smell in the frig. seems to go directly to the ice and ice cream for some reason!
They are 2 for a $1 at the dollar store. The cheap kind is what you want to get. Change them at least every two months or so. If you put one in now it might take the smell from the ice you already have by the next day or so.

Even baking soda can't fix the smelliest fridges and freezers. My grandma is a pack-rat carry-over from the depression and having 6 kids. Her ice tastes like grandma's freezer because she has so much old junk in there.

How old is the food in your freezer? When's the last time you gave it a good thaw, scrub, and fresh stocking? That ought to do it (and in the previous weeks give you a good excuse to eat all that frozen food you've been storing!)

The same particles that make bad smells freeze in the ice and make bad tastes.

Yep, baking soda. Open a box and leave it in your freezer. Put one in your fridge, too.
