Well, being a gamer myself, I find that the gift card would be the best choice. Most games (that are good) run about 40-50 dollars. Choosing a game for him can be VERY difficult if you don't know what exactly to look for.

For example: I like playing first person shooters on my computer, so if someone gives me a wii game (for the most part) I just say thank you and toss it aside.

It's based on interest.

Suggestions:
1. $50 gamestop gift card
2. Find out which game he wants and get it for him.
3. Maybe find a game both of you can enjoy (I got my G/F into WoW.. she's more hooked than me)

I want to stress that a guy + a new video game that he likes can be a very close minded experience. He may get caught up in the game (which in a sense is a good thing since he likes it) and begin to ignore you.

Hope that helped. Good Luck.

Don't make the mistake of just buying any game because its a "video game" or it will play on his system. There are a lot of crap games out there. Try and work out what genre's of games he is in to and do your research. Try www.gamerankings.com, this site compiles a lot of review scores together and look up some of the recent top ranking games for the system. It only takes a little bit of effort to elevate your purchase from good to great.
