I lost my cat Lilly to kidney failure last year. She was 6years old, vet said that it was uncommon to see kidney failure in a cat that young, and assumed that she was born with it, but it only at the time progressed.

About 9 days ago I lost my mums cat to old age. Our whole family loved him, he was 22(human years old - Older than me! Zaccy the cat was always there, he was with my mum before my mum met my dad!) Of course me and my mother are heart broken, we loved Zac so much.

When Lilly died after a few months I asked mum if we could get another cat, mum said no because Zac wouldn't be able to handle it. He didn't handle it well when we first brought Lilly home, we didn't want to put him through it again. (After a while they learned to love each other though, they were always together!) So I understood that, I didn't want to hurt Zac in any way, think that we were replacing him. So we didn't get another kitten.
- Don't have enough characters left to finsih, ill add more to details.

Recently I asked mum about getting another cat, she said yes we will definatly get another cat but not just yet. Of course I under stand, then later I asked if we would be able to get two she said no, I asked why she just said because I want one.

She said that the new cat will be hers and stuff and then I asked if I could get one because Lilly was mine and I wanted my own cat again. She said no.

Also I think thats unfair. I'm 14 by the way.

Mum also doesn't want to get a kitten from the shelter.

"Mum when we do get a cat would we be able to go to the shelter and pick one out?"
"No"
"Why not??"
"Because I want a new cat"
"The cats at the shelter are perfectly fine! They need homes!! They are also cheaper! Microchipped! Vacinated!"
"Abbey, I said no"

I mean... really, I don't understand why she won't get one from the shelter. I would be happy with getting one from there. I would also feel great, you know saving a life.

I wish she could see it in my eyes!
Please help me. I don't know what to say to her to allow me to get my own cat and maybe one from the shelter.

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your cats.

I think you might need to give your mum some time to mourn Zac. He was a part of her life for a long time. When my 19 year old cat went into kidney failure & I had to have her put to sleep, I wasn't ready for a new kitten for a few months.

Adopting a kitten from a shelter is always the best plan. It can save that kitten from being put to death & most shelters will help with spay/neuter & vaccinations to insure the kitten is healthy & stays that way.

An advantage to getting 2 kittens is that they will have each other for companionship while you are at school & your parents are at work. Some cats, just like some people, do much better if they have a companion.

I got my cats as kittens, 6 months apart. Both were abandoned. It took about 2 weeks to socialize them, but they are now sisters & when the younger one was at the vet for her spay surgery, the older one moped around the house all day.

Good luck.

I know that this answer is going to suck, but I can't help it. If you are living under her roof, then you have to respect her boundaries. Maybe she has a very good reason that she doesn't want to say. She doesn't have to explain herself to you.

Anyways, you will probably be moving out the house soon enough and then you can go CAT CRAZY!!

I know how you feel though. I live in a complex which allowed cats when I first moved in. Now that I want one, they have changed the body corporate rules to "no animals".

Remember, it sucks, but its not forever. You will get you cat one day.

I have been told the nicest thing that you can get a kitten is another kitten. They play and grow together and become close friends. It is best to bring them into the family together so one does not feel that he/she is the dominent cat. I don't know your mom's reason's, but maybe she will come around.

Having any style of phobia / worry is an extremely demanding element and it sounds as in case your mothers and fathers do no longer understand . although at 21 yrs previous , you need to understand that's your situation , and at your age you shouldn't pass on your situation on your mothers and fathers . interestingly you're in user-friendly terms there for short quantity of time in the process the twelve months , so in case your mothers and fathers want a cat they must no longer ought to ask your permission what or who comes into their homestead . i myself do no longer think of they must inform you something they plan to do . that's your situation , so which you need to take administration of it ....going for some style of expert help is a robust concept . all of us have issues that got here approximately in our adolescence yet to hold them something of our lives isn't the respond . i would suggest adopting a cat there are a lot out there that need homes. and as for replacing... another cat could never replace the love you felt for your cat but it will give you a chance to make another cat as happy as you made the one you had. sorry for you loss, melissa
