abort if possible because no it is not safe for her
and since you didn't spay her now you have to be really careful to not let this happen again cuz it can kill her but spaying at that age can too.

Regardless of whether it is safe for her, you do NOT want the litter.
It sounds as though you think she is 3 weeks through her pregnancy. Don't leave it any later, get her started NOW on the 3 course abortion you should have started 2 weeks ago. It will probably bring her back on-heat fairly soon, but nothing is free of side-effects.
Alternatively, see if your vet will neuter her, thus ensuring that she is no longer pregnant (if she ever was - at her age I suspect a phantom pregnancy, but I am very surprised that she actually HAD a heat at 11 years old) and cannot ever again get pregnant
Yes, the anaesthetic COULD kill her, depending on how bad her breathing problem is, but your regular vet should have a good idea of whether the risk is acceptable,

Depending on how narrow is her pelvis (and Dachshunds don't have the widest hips in the world...) and which size of Dachsi she is relative to the Shih Tzu, the effort of whelping could exhaust her, it could kill her, it could require a caesarian (which takes you back to that problem with the anaesthetic.....)

Abortion is by far the safest option.

And I am amazed that you showed so little commonsense as to let her be mated FIVE TIMES !!!!!
Once can be excused, if she had never before found that escape route. But after that she would NOT be running loose until her season was well & truly over, were she mine. She would have been on-lead every time she was allowed outside, and she would have had the injections starting the first day the vet stated.

If you're in one of the states of the USofA that are so anti-abortions that vets are not allowed to use those injections, and the vet says it's not safe to perform a spaying, God help your b.itch!

No,it won't be safe for her.You should take her to a vet asap and have her spayed and the puppies aborted. If she does manage to have the puppies, you still need to get her spayed to avoid anymore litters and also to prevent her from developing pyometra, which is a very serious infection of the uterus, common in older, unspayed dogs. The uterus fills with pus and if it isn't treated with spay surgery and antibiotics, the dog will die. Also,is your dog taking medication for her breathing problem? If she is,it could affect the health of the puppies, and if she isn't,then she should be.Take her to a vet, please. Also, she is not too old to be spayed, and the breathing problem can be managed just fine while she's under anesthesia.I just had my almost 15 year old dachshund mix go in for a teeth cleaning and he also had 4 teeth pulled, and he has breathing problems. He did just fine and came home the same day.

Are you certain she is pregnant, or has she just not gone into heat? If its the second, please see a vet to make sure your not dealing with a pyometra. Pregnancy at 11 years old is definitely more risky. I would strongly recommend being under the care of a veterinarian for the entire pregnancy. I would also recommend having a blood profile done to make sure her kidneys and liver are functioning normally and not being put under too much stress. You didnt say exactly what kind of breathing problem it was, but if its anything heart related, I would be concerned.

OMG is the right term, you need to get to the vet and get your dog checked out, having puppies at 11 is dangerous for your dog, if you can get them aborted it would be better for your dog, are you sure she is pregnant and not just having a phantom? your dog really is too old to be going through with having puppies she needs to be closely monitored if you are going to let her go through with the pregnancy, she really needs to be spayed so this does not happen again, get your dog to a vet and find out for certain, if she isn't then you need to be more responsible in the future she is an old girl now and really should not be having puppies.

I'm surprised she was able to concieve at that age. It's not safe, she will need to be closely monitered by a vet throughout the pregnancy. How far along is she? If she's not far along you could have it aborted and spay her. Either way is risky at her age. Please consult a vet about this.

I hope it all works out well for you and your girl. Good luck and best wishes.

Definatly discuss what the best option is with your vet. Due to her age, both pregnancy and surgery are risky and then theres the breathing issue also. Your best and safest option i would suggest is to have the puppys aborted by injection. The drug used causes your dog to miscarry.

I agree with the others, she needs to go to the vet ASAP so that he/she can help you decide on what to do. In the future, always get your pet spayed or neutered.
