You are too active prior to your bedtime and your brain has not shut down for sleep properly. Your dreams often reflect, though sometimes in an obscure way, the events and thoughts of the previous day. For example, I was talking about an old friend one lunch time and how he was a bit of a comedian. The following night I dreamt about him and that he was on a stage.
Sometimes you dream in the sleep period just before you are coming awake or just as you are drifting off.

Everybody dreams a lot. Some people find it easier to recall them, others don't. I'm aware of tests where people who claimed not to dream were encouraged to keep notes of what they could recollect of dreams, and the more effort was made, the more dreams were recalled. Most dreams occur during what's called REM sleep, a period of sleep characterised by rapid eye movements. This kind of sleep is cyclic during sleeping.

Honestly, we still don't know enough about dreams to answer that. There are only theories. Some say they tell us things about our subconcious, we can see the future, we can ... whatever, you name it. Some say they mean nothing - they are just your mind playing things back and running through random things while you are sleeping, and you just happen to remember some of the stuff that was running through it when you wake up. And then we try to put it in some order and make it mean something. Who knows.

Maybe you`re troubled or just excited over something. Usually you tend to dream less as you age. Usually when you think of something excessively it appears in your dream in one way or another. At least that`s what happens to me. Especially with scary stories, since we tend to think of them the most.

I don't know why some people remember their dreams more vividly than others, but everyone dreams, even if they have no recollection (except dead people, they don't dream).
