There were two of them apparently, I only just heard this on the news then. One was at Ted Haggard’s former church and the other happened when some kid was refused a bed at a church so he opened fire.

One of the gunmen was shot down by one of the church's armed security guards.

Since when do churches have armed security guards patrolling during service? Doesn't that display a stark lack of faith in God?

...

In response to the following answer:

"do you believe we shouldnt be using birth control, taking our children to the physician, or anything else that requires the use of our grey matter?"

Those all seem to be opposed by prominent sects of Christianity. All I did was point out the hypocrisy. All of those actions are unnecessary if religions are right about faith being desired and rewarded by God.

"I suspect they received a ton of death threats from people calling them hypocrites, etc and it became a necessity to arm their church."

Your suspicions prove nothing. If I said that I suspect the guards were to keep the parishioners from stealing from the collection plate, would that prove it was so? Of course not.

Your eagerness to dismiss any possibility of internal church problems and blame outsiders is irrational.

Its a tragedy.

To the other poster that nmentioned the security guard. If we are to use that reasoning, do you believe we shouldnt be using birth control, taking our children to the physician, or anything else that requires the use of our grey matter? With the Haggard scandal, I suspect they received a ton of death threats from people calling them hypocrites, etc and it became a necessity to arm their church.

SCIFI GUY: Why else would a huge church hire an armed security guard? For theft? Of course not.

For death threats? Perhaps. It is the most logical conclusion I could come to considering they are a church with an armed guard.

for my section, I dislike them. I easily have been raised an previous classic Lutheran and in our church we had pews, a chancellory etc. presently, our church has geared up a sparkling development (we celebrated our first Easter there at present) and that's geared up in a miles greater present day form. we've chairs rather of pews, and those huge monitors to challenge the words to the hymns and different multimedia presentation. i'm no longer very prepared on the sanctuary because of this. i admire the sensation of reverance for God that i think when I walk into an previous classic sanctuary with stained glass and vaulted ceilings. yet even our new sanctuary isn't as undesirable as another ones I easily have been in. there's a great mega church down the line - their "sanctuary" is an auditorium with stadium seating - no altar, no crosses, no no longer something. they have a coffee save, a e book place, and a youngsters section that sounds like a McDonald's playplace. There are no longer any crosses on the interior. in case you probably did no longer comprehend it replaced right into a church once you walked in, you does no longer think of that it replaced right into a church. i did no longer experience God's presence in there in any respect. i admire the ambience of a greater intimate church community. the only the place human beings comprehend you via call, and the pastor knows you via call. the type the place human beings experience like they're relatives. the type the place you do no longer want a map to get around. Willow Creek Church isn't a approaches from us and my inner maximum viola instructor performed some gigs there - she says there are great maps in there like the type at Six Flags. that's purely me for my section. in spite of the undeniable fact that, if it floats your boat, and brings you nearer to God and to Christ, than via all ability, attend one. i does no longer dream of combating everybody that somewhat felt God's presence there and felt linked to God and Jesus there. It purely isn't for me. Peace!
