Hey guys tonight i was making a left on an intersection and i took the yellow light, it was almost about to change to red but i took the yellow non the-less, there was a F****** cop that stopped me right after the turn and said i had taken the red. Anyways to top it off when he went to check my license it had expired a month and a half ago, GREAT! i had no idea! so in the end he gave me two damn tickets... The one for the red light i saw, on that brochure they give you, to be about $201.50, which is unbelivable! but i have no idea how much the one for the expired license would be, anyone knows? Thanks! And how do expired license cases usually handle in court? I'm thinking of paying a lawyer to go for me... Thanks!

If you do decide to take an attorney with you, make sure he doesn't charge you extra for court cases and that he doesn't charge you for the time you wind up waiting until your case file comes up in the 'docket' and make sure he won't charge you anything unless he is actually able to get you completely off. Otherwise, it is very likely that you will wind up paying the attorney a whole lot more than you will be saving in fines if you didn't get any leniency at all.

You're best bet, of course, is if the law-enforcement officer fails to file correctly or fails to appear, because judges are usually biased in favor of the potential increase in revenues for the coffers from which his/her paycheck is drawn.

The only time I have ever actually sat through cases dealing with expired licenses, all but one of them were treated just like any other criminal case. That one, the old, and I do mean OLD person, instead of saying "Guilty" or "Not guilty" simply said "You know, my wife and I used to babysit your father when he was just a tiny little thing" at which point the judge started interrogating him for his knowledge of his father's and his father's siblings' nicknames. Once satisfied that the guy really did indeed know him, he said "If you plead guilty, I'll lower your fine to fifteen dollars. Is that a deal?" Everybody else in the court that day had been ordered to pay the multiple-hundred dollar fine. But not this old name-dropper. Not with that biassed judge.

Your fault. And your fault. You went through a light as it was turning to red - you could have killed someone. And as for not knowing your licence had expired, well tough. Ignorance is no defence.

Do you have any idea what a lawyer will cost you?? Paying the fines will be cheaper.
