We got my daughter a kitten about 5 mos ago. We didn't realise he was going to be bigger than our yorkie. He constantly attatckes her... he knows it wrong, when I see him stalking her I'll yell at him and he sometimes stops. Also, when I catch him doing it, all I have to do is look at him and he takes off to his hiding spot. My question is, how can I get the cat to stop? He's a big guy and my poor little dog has to live in fear. Oh, he also attackes the kids and has broken numerous christmas bulbs off the tree! Don't say get rid of him, that is a very last resort, I like him... he's cool, but a big bully. :)

teach the kitty a lesson by dropping it in a tub of water. that'll show who's boss.

I think your kitten is bored! My best suggestion would be to get another kitten about the same age and size, so he has someone to play with who's his equal.
It will be hard to stop him from terrorizing your poor pup. Keep a squirt bottle handy and squirt him with a firm "NO!" every time he does it. A lot of yelling will only upset him and make him act out more, unfortunately. He will learn and, in time, he may leave the dog alone, especially if you get him a new buddy to play with.
Don't let anyone talk you into finding him a new home.
Breaking Christmas bulbs in normal for those of us who have cats at Christmas. You have to get plastic ornaments or else just expect a few to get broken.
Attacking the kids is worrisome. I suppose it's possible they are rough with him maybe? Or perhaps he does just have a very dominant personality. Use that squirt bottle!
Be sure to praise him and pet him when he does things right!
Good luck.

awww poor guy is just a kitten thats what kittens do!! hes looking for someone to play with and the tree is fair game.
I was so excited that they came out with shatterproof glass balls its a big hit at my house! Even my 13 yr old cat will take the balls off to play with them!
One of the other posters brought up a great idea and that is a squirt gun we use a spray bottle at our house. It works great on discouraging the cats and dogs from bad behavior without having to hurt them or raise your voice. One squirt and a firm NO will work and the guy will eventually catch on!

Get a water gun and fill it with vinegar and water. Keep it with you. Keep the yorkie in the same room with you. When the cat stalks or attacks, shoot it with vinegar water, as you say in a DEEP (attempted manley sounding voice) "OFF".
Also, shoot him with the vinegar solution for attacking the kids.
You can have the kids keep squirt bottles with vinegar water, and squirt the cat if it attacks and tell the cat in a deep, firm voice "OFF" so they can deal with the cat even if you're not there.
Another alternative is to contact a trainer or animal behaviorist.
Cats are harder to train than dogs.

I had a cat that acted more like a big dog. He actually harassed our black lab! Well, actually he harassed everyone. We loved it though. I used 'aqua therapy' when he got too carried away with the dog of the dog appeared to be getting fed up with it. Just a quick spritz with the spray bottle when the cat was doing something wrong and he realized very quickly what wasn't allowed.

Sounds like he still has some kitten left in him, lots of energy. Of course he's broken christmas ornaments......just be glad he isn't climbing the tree!!! He sounds like a toddler to me and doesn't know it all yet. With age he will most likely settle down. Do you have catnip toys for him to play with ? Is he bored? In the mean time...the squirt bottle is a good choice.

each little thing is going to be fantastic with your kitties, The troublemaker is your 8 month previous and he or she is barely attempting for dominance. interior the previous as quickly as I owned women folk of different an prolonged time they might bypass at it for hours at a time all day and evening scuffling with below each little thing and everywhere. in maximum circumstances too vets have not any theory approximately animal habit so they do no longer seem to be going to be any help. My advice is to enable them to at it, they wont harm one yet another badly perhaps a pair a marks right here and there which you will cope with at residing house very actual. that's quite useful to fasten them the two up at evening although so which you and your residing house can get some sleep. yet by no ability separate them this might in uncomplicated terms make it worse.

you are just going to have to keep letting your kitty know what he's doing is wrong. when you can't keep an eye on your dog and cat for a while, you might consider putting them in separate areas of the house.
you can do a yahoo search on cat behavior and perhaps you will find answers/help on some of the search result sites.
all the best!

I used to squirt my two cats with a spray bottle filled with tap water when they bothered the tree or started fighting with each other. They know not to touch the tree or fight now.
They may chase each other or jump out and spring on one another but that all seems to be part of their play.

If he's only 5mo he is still very much a kitten, more than likely he'll grow out of this sort of behaviour.
