Okay, so I am not trying to offend religious people in any way. But i'm just curious as to why some religious people completely ignore scientific facts that have been proven, and still believe what is written in the bible?

For eg: scientists have re created the arc in which Noah built, and have proven that it was impossible to fit the amount of animals on it as he did.
Yet people still believe this, is it ignorance?

But if not for them, what would we do for entertainment?

Here's an absolutely hilarious website:

http://www.evolution-facts.org/Handbook%20TOC.htm

This was actually posted by a religious guy the other night as "proof" that evolution is false. This website says that granite was never molten (and furthermore came into existence in three minutes flat), that Jupiter's moon Io is volcanically active because the universe is so young it just hasn't had time to cool off, and that earth's ice ages were caused by volcanic dust.

And MANY, MANY other bits of sheer idiocy. I fear for the future of our race if there are honestly people out there who believe this bunk.

Edit: With regard to one very ignorant post above, Machu Pichu is only about 500 years old, not 10,000.

Edit: "man, has been wrong many times.....like being sure the world was flat?!? the bible itself speaks of it being round....."

The bible says that the earth sits motionless where God put it. (Psalms 104-5) At least science has the balls to admit that it's been wrong in the past.

Edit: (with regard to an answer below mine)

"How do you know how old the earth is? Were you there for it's creation? How do you know that there was an ice age?"

It's called RADIOMETRIC DATING...

"You have faith that what you are taught from a science book is fact. But without actually witnessing it you can't say that. Somebody tells you that it is fact but they do not have evidence..."

UM, YES, THEY DO HAVE EVIDENCE, YOU MORON. I really this this person should not have dropped out of school...

If everyone thought like this we'd all still be living in caves, I swear...

How do you know how old the earth is? Were you there for it's creation? How do you know that there was an ice age? Now before you say that there is scientific evidence I want you to really think about this.

You have faith that what you are taught from a science book is fact. But without actually witnessing it you can't say that. Somebody tells you that it is fact but they do not have evidence, and yet you do not question it.

In the same way, I have faith that what I read in the Bible is fact. I have no evidence, I wasn't there when the earth flooded, or when the Red Sea parted, or when Christ rose from the dead. But because of my faith I believe it.

It's usually because people are born into their religion and have just grown accustomed to being that way. I was born into Christianity, but tend to be more open towards things. I know there's a lot of facts stating that some of the things in the Bible are hypocritical or contradicting, etc., but I still believe just because I'm used to it and pretty much just think what I believe in is right. But just because I THINK it's right doesn't mean it really is. Basically, religion just depends on the person's beliefs of right and wrong and I understand that everyone won't agree with each other. So yeah, it's really hard to change a person's beliefs when they've stuck with them for so long,

I don;t know why people ignore facts, but almost everyone does on one topic or another (ncluding you at some point I am sure). Religion, science, politics, history, love, every topic under the sun has facts that are ignored by someone or some group. So I guess we just have to get used to it. But what does it matter to you if someone wants to believe in the arc? How does that effect or alter your life?

(and don't use a slippery slope argument because those just show you have no real reason)

Some religious people believe the bible (or whatever book they consider holy) to be literally true, even if the text contradicts known scientific or historical facts. I'm not sure how they do it, but it seems to work for them. Others see the stories in the bible as metaphor.

What surprises me, here in Y/A, is that athiests make such a big deal over that. In my daily life, I rarely hear anybody get all worked up over the fact that somebody happens to believe in G-d. Sure they disagree, but it doesn't matter, does it?

If God can come to earth as a man and shed his blood on the cross to pay the penalty for sin and arise from the grave, and can make you a new creature in him by giving you faith, then is it so hard to believe that scientists can not comprehende nor calculate the power of God to do his own will on this earth, no matter how extraordinarily it is accomplished?

First off I love science I think it is a beautiful thing that God created. I think that we all have the same set of facts but the issue come in interpreting them. I view all things in light of God being creator and in control. You see all things through the lense of accident and coincidence. There is no middle ground. There is no nuetrality. I don't choose to ignore science I think that there is a greater authority then science. My God is the same yesterday, today and always. Science changes. Things that were fact according to science a decades ago, few years ago, a few months ago aren't anymore. Until everything is known sciences is a weak mistress. Do you know everything? I surely don't. and neither does science. Constantly new things are being discover and new theories put forth. So why trust in something that seems to change. Disocver is wonderful but it changes things.

Hahahahaha! That is sooooo cool, I never knew scientists actually built the Ark and tried to sail with all of the animals in it. That's really funny.

Well, you also got simple historical sites too to think about..
-edit- oops, i meant the cave Coxcatlan Cave, in Mexico was created about 10,000 years ago.

I don't know why some Christians on here are so angry... about defending their beliefs. If they think that God will save them on Judgement day, then shouldn't they just be happy at let it be?

No it's not ignorance.. it's called faith. And if you're not Christian, it's hard to explain.
Many things that seem impossible to the world are not. When you have God on your side you can do things that people will "prove" scientifically that can't happen.
It's chosing to follow something that conquers the impossibilities instead of just sitting there and settling for what scientist or the world has to say about it.

I'd rather conquer impossible.. I don't know about you.

I don't think this is an indication on religious people.

- Most people in the world claim some kind of religious belief.

- X percentage of the overall world population is stupid.

- Logically, most of the stupid people in the world are religious.
