surf fishing from the beach requires a very long casting rod. I use chunks of squid and do very well at night, and not bad a dawn or dusk. For day fishing, use a heavy rod and fish the break walls or from/near the rocks. Watch the tides and the waves. large waves mean stay off the breakwalls and rocks, fish another time. I've never been swept off the rocks but I have come darn close with freak waves.

Try the beaches. There are lots of surf perch. Bring pile worms or dig sandcrabs from the beach.
