Because we are thinking, feeling creatures who have the desire to understand things and find connection with things that go beyond the physical aspects of our body. Humans turn to spirituality because of the feeling that there is more to life than just the physical realm. Spirituality is a grey area, there are many different ways of thinking and believing. So, if there are a lot of beliefs and philosophies going around, it's only natural to learn from each other and to group yourself with people who believe similarly to you.

Lazy and irresponsible people creat religion. Think about it. When they can't explain something instead of searching for an answer, which doesn't come easy, like the scientists do, religious people just say it is God will or God plan and be done with it. Non religious people take responsibilty for their own actions. Religious people simply state that Jesus died and take away all their sins, how convenience and irresponsible.

It was created to control the "low-mentals," and bring morality to the masses when it was lacking. It was embraced because it was a way of "explaining" things that couldn't be explained.

How it continues to this day, I'll never understand. I guess some people just need something in which to believe.
