The only thing I was inclined to do after watching that movie was demand a refund. Was it just me or did those films actually get worse as each sequel came out?

Anyway, no Spidey 3 didn't influence me to be a villain. And if a slop stew of Hollywood glitz and special effects can make you rethink your inclinations then you need to watch Care Bears and spare the rest of the world your potential breakdown.

We do let our Dark Side out at times, some more than others. What many people miss is that God already knows about us, and what makes us twisted. He took care of that, and we must trust Him for it.

I've watched Spidey 3, and thought there are some interesting Christian elements in the movie.

For example, once we believe Jesus died for our sins, the Bible says since we died with Him and were raised with Him, we are to reckon ourselves dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:11)

However, we still have the flesh or the sinful nature, which can cause us to struggle with sinful passions and lusts when we try to obey the law. The apostle Paul had this struggle when he tried to keep the tenth commandment "Thou shalt not covet" (Romans 7:7-12).

"For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.

For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.

Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me." (Romans 7:18-20)

What then shall we say? Is it doomed for us Christians to be always struggling with sinful passions, like "leaning on the dark side"? No, because God has not intended for us to be living a wretched life like this, and has made a way of escape.

"No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it." (1 Corinthians 10:13)

And that "way of escape" is the finished work of Jesus Christ. As Paul has concluded in triumph, "I thank God Christ Jesus our Lord has delivered me from this body of death!" (Romans 7:23-25, paraphrased).

So we overcome "the dark side" or the sinful nature in us, by believing what Jesus Christ has done - at the cross, He bore our condemnation for all our sins, so that we can be free from guilt and condemnation.

"There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus." (Romans 8:1)

At the cross, Jesus took our sins and gave us His gift of righteousness. When we believe in Him, He made us the righteousness of God in Christ.

"For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." (2 Corinthians 5:21)

So, the way we reign in life over sin and death, and over this "dark side", is to receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness through Christ Jesus. We receive by confessing we are the righteousness of God in Christ. When we believe we are righteous, we will end up living righteously. :)

"For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ." (Romans 5:17)
