This is not criticism of any sort; this is not a claim of atheism being right and niether is is the ranting of a Quran/Bible/Torah thumper but an impartial observation.
I have been a user of Yahoo Answers for some time now and I have noticed an interesting trend. In any religious question, the answers with a cynical/atheist tinge tend to receive the highest "net" thumbs up. The hardcore religious answers tend to get trampled where the thumbs up/down are concerned.
Must be a jagged pill for some folks to swallow but it's true.
What do you think?

There's basically 2 reasons I thumbs down, clear insults (think Francine), and pointless cut and pastes, which seems to be a fundie trademark. I ask "what's 2+2" and the answer is a cut and paste from genesis to revelation. It's not even an attempt to answer, and I tend to thumb down them to see the other answers easier.

I don't thumbs up, unless it's really really funny, or if it phrases my opinion better than I could. So being an atheist, it might be that I happen to agree more with atheist ;)

Then again, I've never given thumb downs for simply disagreeing. I've managed to get 7 once for answering "no religion" to a poll about religous affiliation.... and 11 for "no, I don't hate muslims"...go figure.

I guess the atheists are more active, so the christians' hate thumbs are distributed more equally...and the atheists just pile on the really bad answers.

Watch this... I wasn't too offenisive, and I tried to answer. And I'm predicting 3 thumbs downs (and I bet all from christians)

I try to completely ignore the whole concept. I will occasionally give a thumbs down if someone is being genuinely disrespectful; as in the time someone was making fun of the askers grammar and spelling when it was very obvious that English was not his first language. But in general I think its silly, as is the whole level thing. Unfortunately its that silliness that keeps the whole thing going. I've looked for other forums. I've found a lot of them and almost without exception there's no one there. Somehow that gentle froth of atheist/fundie nonsense keeps the place interesting enough to draw a crowd. And lets face it without points and levels and stars and thumbs, they wouldn't be here.

So thank you Atheists, and thank you Fundies, for without your antics this would be another forum with the last reply having been posted in 2004.

With incredibly tolerant Love,

This is one place that atheists can come and express their thoughts and not fear persecution and repercussions, It always cracks me up when fundies go on about how christianity is under assault in this country.

Why is it that people are seriously considering a woman, a black man and a mormon for president when an atheist candidate would be horribly reviled?

An acquaintance is a public school teacher in Tennessee and she asked her students to refrain from drawing religious images and writing phrases like "Jesus loves you" on their homework, word got round that she was an "atheist" and many parents formed a lynch mob and systematically demanded that their children be removed from her classes and she was forced to take a transfer to a less desirable school--She should have sued the district's *** off but she didn't.

So being able to express ourselves and not be subject to bigotry and prejudice is one reason many of us are here.

I think there is a greater percentage of atheists who have obtained level 2 or higher. That probably factors into everything. I have found that the majority of thumbs-down that are given to atheists tend to be done on the basis of their beliefs, rather than on the legitimacy of the answer. I think that's sad, but it seems that believers tend to thumbs-down atheists just because they're atheists.

I think it just depends whose online at the time. I see what might be atheists (I never assume because I love to ask challenging questions and am often chastised for being an atheist, which I'm not) getting thumbs down in their droves when they ask something that is hard to answer.

It is because there are a bunch of juvenile atheists and very few true adult atheists on here. The juvenile ones run in packs giving thumbs up to the cynical answers(as long as they are disrespectful) and thumbs down to anything that is real discussion (same thing with the juvenile religious). Both need to realize shouting louder and kicking harder does not make you right.

Honestly what this board needs are less fundamentalist and less juvenile atheists and needs more real adult atheists and real adult religious (with a mature sense of spirituality) that will engage in an actual dialogue.

Atheists come to the Religion section to let out their anger and disgust at the way they've been treated by Christians and other religions, and religious people flock to the LGBT section to preach their beliefs and put people down.

Everyone has a lot of anger these days, and the internet is the best place to let it all out. It's unfortunate that such a potentially great resource is being spoiled, but it's only natural.

There is much judgement
There is much generalisation

Each to their own.
I feel it Is a silly way to waste your life on here trying to annoy people though
I have read that many people do that.

Also I feel many people leave after awhile.

I do not see much evolution of thought which is a shame.
Many good questions have been answered here, and people could expand their understanding to live life with more respect for all life forms.

Bright blessings be.

BISMILLAH HIRRAHMAN NIRRAHEEM,
I didn't think about anthing these type of questions, but when you asked then my answer is that " If atheist have time for coming R&S section then why they don't use this time for thinking how he exist whithout sense? If they will say that they have sense, then how?, We know that we have senses because Allah has given us and informed us by Holy books [and i m follower of Qur'an]. So how they know that they have sense, niether there brain don't call that I have senses, or senses call that they exist, and they havn't make any sound which we can listen. Thats why they come to this section for knowledge but they'll not agree with it becouse if they'll agree then they 'll not atheists.
