I am sure that some are. I just hope that they say so.

The same question can be posed to a member of any other religion.
For example, are Christians ashamed of what is happening in Iraq ?
Are Jews ashamed of what is happening in Palestine?
Are Hindus ashmed of what is happening to Muslims sporadically in parts of India?
Was it a Christain War Machine that descended upon Iraq? Or have I got it all wrong? Was it a Christian thing to go after the innocent people in Iraq for the mistake of someone hiding in Afghanistan-Pakistan?
The only difference is that the modern war machines and their remote control operators are adroit and astute enough to blame the others as Islamists etc. They control the minds of the sheep that watch their media on TV.
They cannot fool the critical thinkers.
Evil is evil, and has nothing to do with religion.
True religion resides in the heart of man. It is intrinsically non violent.
The human intellect manipulates it into violence.

Dude I am not just ashamed... I am horrified. Slaughter in the name of any faith is heartless cruelty; it has to take an incredibly twisted mind to make a person play some sort of torturous moral police. The Islamic doctrine is that people are responsible for their own actions. A woman's piety is between her and her God. The men who did this to these innocent women deserve some punishment which I cannot even comprehend. To be honest I don't know what can drive a person to such ignorance, cruelty and savage insanity. Over a decade of studying this religion has taught me that killing one person is equivalent to murdering the whole of humanity.
It is a heart-wrenching, heinous and pitilessly insane act which has nothing to do with any faith. If it does, then the faith is one of cruel murderes who get their thrills from massacre.
I am not one for capital punishment but in the case of such people, I would gladly make an exception.

Any Muslim who criticizes Islam or the actions of the "faithful" might as well paint a target on his back.
Until so many Muslims protest the actions of the few fanatics that it would be impossible to target them all, nothing will change. It would take an act of incredible bravery and willingness to change a fundamentally flawed religion. I won't hold my breath; those in power like having a few nut cases keeping people scared. In fact it appears they recruit unbalanced individuals to keep things stirred up. It helps them hold onto power.

nervous: you say you are an American Muslim who wears her veil by choice. do you seriously believe you will be as free under Islamic Law to choose to wear your veil or not? Islam is oppressive and you dont feel it because you live in a free society...its called democracy
My country of origin is christian although it is not a democracy...it is ruled by a council of Elders (males..of course)...a woman as outspoken as i am (so i am told) will risk deportation after so many trivial fines for law-breaking e.g 20yrs ago woman are not allowed to wear shorts, trousers or singlets in their own homes even. Today they can do so but not in public...if some-one is reported then the crime has to be answered..usually a fine.
i suppose should be grateful these christian men are not as sexist as muslim men who kill poor muslim women for not wearing the appropriate dress

Human history is nothing but the account of atrocities and injustice committed by one people to another in own part of the acquired land mass.Crusades which led to the propogation of Christainity had resulted in the massacre of innumerable innocents. Now why this outrage if a few fundamentalists are killing the innocents in the name of Islam! Can we undo the history? But,we can close all relÃgious books to prevent further addition to the dark and lamentable catalogue of human history.Neither being a Christian nor Muslim,I urge the individuals like you to rejoice in the glory of existence, speaking the language of heart inspired by love.RajaSharma.

Of course, there are Muslims who denounce such activities. But is it interesting to show moderate Muslims speaking out against such things? No! It's more interesting to see radical Muslim clerics that breathe fire and condemn the world in their rants. Whenever there's a major attack in the name of Islam, there's someone from the Muslim community on Sky or BBC or CNN who denounces such. But the interview is quickly forgotten once the horror of the event is repeated over and over again. I guess my point is the Muslim community does denounce these acts but it's hardly noticed probably due to the horror of the events getting more coverage.

The crusades didn't happen during the lifetime of anyone currently alive.
That crap that is happening to women in Islam is happening right now.
A person would have to be terribly stupid to not see the difference.
The Qur'an is not the only book important to Islamics. There is also Sahih al-Bukhari (hadiths, traditions, sayings). It is believed to contain some of the teachings of Muhammed, though Muslims don't necessarily believe it to be divinely inspired. It contains support for female genital mutilation as well as the murder of former Muslims who convert to other religions.
Are they ashamed? As far as I can tell, they all deny that female genital mutilation and murder are permitted by Islamic religion. If they are not lying, then they are ignorant of their own religious texts.

I guess this question is very similar to the one asking if ALL Christians are ashamed of the Holy Crusades. The answer is probably the same: some are and some are not. You are trying to put millions of people into one category. At the same time, you attempt to blame a group of people for individuals actions. I feel these actions are the result of many systems and many peoples (including all of us).

Please quote your source. On the News? Where?
A problem seems to be that when Muslims protest, nobody seems to notice. See the raction of UK Muslims on the teddy bear incident, the reaction of muslim on abduction of french people in the Middle East.
Why would it not be allowed?

They people who slander and mock Islam will be brought into account; nobody needs to worry. And don't belief anything you hear. In Iraq, a country were prisons like abu graib can be founded on torture and humiliation; I don't see where you or anyone else has any moral ground to speak.
