I'm putting together a group to go next weekend; my friends and I had all agreed to see it on DVD, but then we learned that people were protesting it - so we're making sure to put our money towards it.

The people calling the MOVIE anti-god are the same people that think that Harry Potter movies will turn kids into witches and the purple Tellie Tubbie will turn them gay.

The BOOK according to the news cast I saw is pretty strongly anti religion. The movie however, in the great tradition of Hollywood has cut out absolutely every reference or bit of story that might be controversial to those very very sensitive among us, so no reference at all to religion. So, there are people that can't stand to read or have their children read ideas that differ their own stay away from the book. The movie, however, is perfectly safe, even for those Christians.

So far, I am looking at the Roman Catholic Church real close. I also wonder about some of the Protestant churches that came out against it. Who pulled their chain.

The books I haven't read, but the movie I saw, it seemed that it was against religion in politics, and the Roman Catholic Church. I name the Roman Catholic Church because they have been the most vocal about it. AND I UNDERSTAND THEIR REASON FOR DOING THE COMPLAINING! Because they are named specifically in the movie many times. It just takes a dictionary to recognize it.

magisterium
–noun Roman Catholic Church.
the authority and power of the church to teach religious truth.

The problem I see with the Roman Catholic Church is that they really ARE in politics. And they tend to attempt to control what people think. So I see them like Philip Pullman see them. I am not talking about the typical Roman Catholic, but those who run that church.

They have been guilty of a lot of things that God only knows about, and passing themselves off as 'Christian' when they tend to deny that scripture has authority over them and their Popes, and their traditions.

So I did not really see an Atheist movie ( though some Atheists think it is ) , what I saw was a fantasy with a strong message against that religion and others like it.

If they think this is anti-god then they are going to have apoplexy if we ever get to the movie of book 3.

It is O.K. Not as good as the books it loses a whole subplot about our actions and their consequences - foreseen and unforeseen. Messes around with the plot a little and changes the order of events for some reason I can't think of.

But then that is fairly typical of the book-to-movie conversion process.

It's an awesome movie!

People are morons, lol.

Being in a cult will make you do strange things, like freak out about a movie you know nothing about because you're too brainwashed by a cult to think for yourself and watch the movie and judge for yourself.

did I mention...cults suck?

it's not... the only thing i know of is that the author of the novel is atheist, and so a bunch of crazy religious nuts are spinning it way out of proportion by saying that the movie is anti-god and anti-atheist... which is just ridiculous. the author's religious preference has no more to do with the movie than anyone else's. i'm glad they're just making more money for the movie by boycotting it :) idiots.

because when they finish with all the sequels in the end they kill a god.

The boycotters are because the villians are called the Magisterium and they are not so much worried about this film as they are if it is popular they will make the sequels where eventually a god will be killed. (note they never claim the God (as in killing hte universal one or all gods, just a particular one).
