I don't know if I have a problem. I drink about 6 out of 7 nights a week. I mostly only drink beer. I have about 6-9 beers a night. So does my husband. Even with the amount (averaging $100 a week) we spend, we are not bad off financially. We have a great relationship with each other, our friends and family. We work at the same place and HATE it. I think that's what started our drinking binges (sp?). But sometimes I get concerned with the amount we drink, and so does he. Do we have a problem? My brother thinks we do, but at the same time he's a pothead so I don't listen to half of what he says. I was just curious about others opinions before I went somewhere else with this question. If we do have a problem, who do I talk to? Doctor? Shrink? Family member? Thanks.

You have a serious alcohol problem. The insidious thing about alcohol is it can make a bad situation (your jobs) tolerable for a while, but it prevents you from correcting it or even from thinking clearly about it.

Look up Alcoholics Anonymous in the phone book. Call one or two near you and find out when they hold their open meetings. Go there. You will be surprised at how down to earth they are. They won't try to make you do anything. They won't preach to you. They won't even tell you you have a problem and need to quit. You won't have to say or do anything; just listen to them talk to one another.

You have already taken the first step toward healing by admitting you have a problem. Go to AA. Seriously.

AA is a good place to get information. And yes you have a huge drinking problem. I had a problem for years and finally was able to get it under control. I solved it by only allowing my self to have two beers a night and drank water or juice the rest of the night. Over the next few years I found that I didn't even want those and now it's been years since I had a beer. The hardest part to realize was how much money I spent in my drinking years, I added it up and found that I could have retired when I was 50 and now I will be lucky to retire at all. You only have this one life so make it good. Good luck

If you are at a point of wondering if have a problem, then you know the answer. I was doing the same thing myself, and did not think it was a problem, but it almost cost me my family. I am not advocating to completely stop drinking, but there has to be moderation. I still enjoy a beer with dinner, but not 1 before 2 during, and 4-5 more afterward.

Try and make an honest effort not to drink for several nights in a row. If you experience withdrawls, then you are physically addicted. Go to an AA meeting....if you hear anything there that you relate to, then you are probably an alcoholic. Think about WHY you drink (ie: stress, anxiety, social, habit, relaxation....)

Just the fact that you THINK you may have a problem is reason enough to consider looking up a local alcoholics anonymous meeting. www.alcoholics-anonymous.org

6-9 beers a night x 6-7 nights a week is not "binge" drinking. I believe you already know the answer to your question. Nip it in the "bud" now! (no, not THAT Bud) and try to really cut down or stop! If that is too difficult, seek help! You will be O.K., and best of luck!

My first question would be how do you feel if circumstances cause you not to be able to drink when you normally would?
If you experience anxiety or frustration those are signs of dependency. It doesn't sound as though the drinking is affecting your life adversely, but I feel I need to inform you that that amount of alcohol will affect your health down the road.
Any chance of finding a more tolerable job? or are you using the job as an excuse to drink ( I have seen it).
Good luck to you.

Alcoholics Anonymous has a website where you can take a test to find out. It has a scoring system based on the accumulation of points from your answers. Good Luck!

That is kinda a lot..a normal intake would be one beer a day. If you need to talk to someone go to your family doctor and they can refer you to a specialist. I used to have a drinking problem..everynight I got drunk and I went to a therapist for help. I never drink anymore
