Is masterbating against christianity. And if so why?

It depends on which branch of Christianity you're referring to. In Roman Catholicism, it is considered a sin of the flesh because it reflects losing control over your primal urges and also because the Bible refers to God's anger over Onan's failure to use his semen to impregnate his brother's widow, as was the law. (NOTE: The churches say little about how ridiculous that law is.)

Most mainline protestant churches have little to say about masturbation, and if you ask the pastor in private, you're likely to be told it's natural and not a problem.

However, some conservative protestant churches still consider it some form of sin, again using the story of Onan, but also making reference to the fantasies that can develop when masturbating as "committing adultery in your heart" which Jesus condemned.

So the bottom line is that it depends on whom you ask.
