For this item wash with warm water and mild soap-dish soap is fine. Soak the parts that contact the water in 1/2 white vinegar/1/2 water for 1/2 hour. This will also loosen any mineral deposits which can then be scrubbed away. Let air dry.
Avoid mineral deposits and lessen the chance of contaminants by using distilled water.

Fill up a spray bottle with vinegar and water in equal parts and it will clean most areas of your home. Vinegar is also a disinfectant and deodorizer. Always test it on an inconspicuous area. Never use on marble.

Vinegar, and it also works well on coffee makers. Disinfect with clorox, or sea breeze.
