The thoughts that are going on in your head are the sin while preforming this act. If you think of doing something you are just as guilty as if your had committed the sin.

Essentially, the Abrahmic religions are against it. It is actually a way to control a person, most of these belief structures are nothing more than policing agencies. Masturbation is simply sex. It is healthy to have a good sex life, no matter what that lifestyle consists of.

In the christian bible the sin was spilling the seed (or sperm) on the ground and not making a baby, not the masturbation itself. As for the other religions...I don't know but I would guess it is for the same reason...they wanted more babies to grow into more followers!

First of all, masturbation will not truly relieve the sexual pressure that one may feel. It may for a short moment, but in the long run it only creates a deeper desire and capacity for sex, which will lead to more masturbation. If you let yourself become enslaved to a sexual high, you will find that you need to go to increasingly extreme acts to maintain the same degree of excitement. There are even ungodly sex therapists who recommend masturbation as a way of increasing sexual desire, not lessening it. This creates a vicious circle, like the junkie who craves a "fix," but is only temporarily satisfied. The more he indulges in his dependency, the more ensnared by addiction he becomes. This is the nature of all sin. That is why Jesus declared that all who sin become a slave to sin (John 8:34).

Furthermore, masturbation usually involves fantasy, visualization, and often pornography. The Bible is very clear as to what God expects of us in these areas of fantasy and lust. It teaches that we must not look lustfully at each other nor should we behave in such a manner as to entice others to lust after us.

ok, i'm very non secular and extremely Christian, and that i masturbate. there is not any longer something interior the bible that declares which you may no longer masturbate. each so often issues could be bent to intemperate which you may no longer, even with the incontrovertible fact that it in no way relatively says which you may no longer. I surely have talked to people in my church approximately this, and each and each physique of them has instructed me that it is common and area of exploring your physique. some people could say self exhilaration is sinful, yet you exhilaration your self once you consume chocolate, and is that a sin too!? the sole undertaking that I surely have concept-approximately myself to be against the bible could be imagining your self with yet another guy whilst your married to somebody else. mendacity is a sin too, yet all and sundry lies in some unspecified time interior the destiny or yet another. it is not something incorrect, and almost all and sundry does it.

They believe sperm is special, a source of power, that you only get so much of it....lots of reasons. I've also heard that it is a form of worshiping false idols (which is a stretch and probably just a way to make female masturbation forbidden)

Genesis 38:8-10

Then Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife, and perform your duty as a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.” Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother’s wife, he wasted his seed on the ground in order not to give offspring to his brother. But what he did was displeasing in the sight of the LORD; so He took his life also.

Masturbation (for both men and women) is haraam (forbidden) in Islam based on the following evidence:

First from the Qur’aan:

Imam Shafi’i stated that masturbation is forbidden based on the following verses from the Qur’aan (interpretation of the meaning):

"And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts, from illegal sexual acts). Except from their wives or (the captives and slaves) that their right hands possess, - for them, they are free from blame. But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors." 23.5-7 Here the verses are clear in forbidding all illegal sexual acts (including masturbation) except for the wives or that their right hand possess. And whoever seeks beyond that is the transgressor.

"And let those who find not the financial means for marriage keep themselves chaste, until Allah enriches them of His bounty." 24.33. This verse also clearly orders whoever does not have the financial means to marry to keep himself chaste and be patient in facing temptations (including masturbation) until Allah enriches them of His bounty.

Secondly, from the sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him):

Abdullaah ibn Mas’ood said, "We were with the Prophet while we were young and had no wealth whatsoever. So Allaah’s Messenger said, "O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty (i.e. his private parts from committing illegal sexual intercourse etc.), and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power." Bukhari:5066. The hadeeth orders men who are not able to marry to fast despite the hardship encountered in doing so, and not to masturbate despite the ease with which it can be done.

Primitive people come up with really primitive beliefs. Or maybe some primitive people were spending all day masturbating in their caves and starved to death.

Because that action (and feeling, I guess) should be solely for conceiving purposes. Therefore, any form of birth control is also against some religions.
