I don't know what you mean by evidence. To disprove evolution as a theory to support Atheism, one only needs to point out the lack of evidence to support Atheism. But to answer your question, the reason whay "intelligent design" is used, is because to support creationism, you can point out that even the most simple organisms have a design to them that seems intelligent. If this design is not intelligent, then why is it that intelligent people like Humans cannot create life? So creationists believe that there must be a intelligent design behind life, rather than accidental design. If there is intelligent design, then the next logical step is to find out who designed life. Perhaps I'm not intelligent enough, or imaginative enough to understand how something with apparent intelligent design came to be, because I cannot accept Evolution as the cause of the intelligent design. There is evidence for evolution, but there is no evidence that I can see whatsoever that leads me to believe that evolution is what caused life to exist. So I think I could challenge the theory of evolution that supports atheism by asking questions like "Why are there not thousands of transitional species from one species to the next?". "Why do species tend to preserve characteristics rather than mutate?". Those answers could be answered by more theories, but those are just theories - and when you start turning a theory into a belief system it becomes more like a religion. So perhaps both Atheists and Creationists are taking a blind leap of faith? I see intelligent design, so my leap of faith is that there is a creator.

you can drown out reason and truth with shouts of deception and people with money and power can make the creationists (who are telling the truth) "go away" but it won't change the word of God and it won't change the truth. The truth is God created this earth and everything in it and told it to be fruitful and multiply. Man has almost destroyed the earth and doesn't want a guilt trip from his creator. He foolishly believes he can hide from God or make him go away with his elaborate toys and theories, misusing the brain and tools God Gave to him. Sad but true. Sad sad sad.

So what surprises you? They've been using the same "reference" book since the Bronze Age.
