I read posts here on Chrisianity and over half the people say they are atheists. Why don't they see His love? Why do people hate? I am really not trying to accuse of anything though. Im just curious.

Disbelief is a conclusion as valid as belief.
I'm assuming your Christian, since you mentioned reading Christian questions. I don't understand how Christians can read the Bible with god smiting tribes and their children mercilessly for not believing in him and believe the Biblical god is a god of love. Maybe if he hadn't smitten those tribes, he could have made believers out of them. And it's not right to say he couldn't do it, because if he has the power to harden the pharaoh's heart and soften it, he can make people believers and disbelievers. I think most disbelieve because the Bible is full of contradictions and there are many alternative religions to choose from, most claiming to be "the one true path." Christianity is not unique. The question arises, does god exist, and if he/she/it exists, which path is right?
I'm sorry if I rambled, but that's not an easy question.

Dear Lilly,
What you believe and what your parents and other people who believe in God believe is called 'faith'.
Faith is the unknowable promoted to the irrefutable.
That means if you think something is true just because somebody says so then you are closing the door to everyone who doesn't believe the same way. There are millions of people who are atheists. We don't hate you. We believe that you have the right to believe whatever you want. We don't ask you to change. We just wish you wouldn't ask us to change, or think or say bad things about us. Thanks.

I don't think they hate. It's just that some people have a hard time believing in what they can't see. It's all a matter of faith and faith in what you believe in. I'm 25 years old and still question to myself about how and why. Even christians do it, we all ask questions. We want a reason why and shown to us to let us know this is true. We want facts and evidence but in reality we can't we go by what man has passed down but for one person is another interperation of another man.

Atheists don't hate! And they don't feel God's love, because there is nothing to feel. We don't understand how it is possible for people TO believe in God. The whole concept seems ridiculous, really. And frightening. I don't need to rely on an imaginary being to provide for me and direct my life. I am perfectly capable of doing that myself. And, contrary to Christian opinion, I'm MUCH happier now that I've rid my life of religion.

The definition of Belief:
1. something believed; an opinion or conviction
2. confidence in the truth or existence of something not immediately susceptible to rigorous proof
3. confidence; faith; trust

Simply believing in something provides for no basis as to whether that thing is ACTUALLY right or wrong, real or fake, true or false.
I choose not to BELIEVE any thing. You can't KNOW that God exists, no one can. It is your opinion, your assumption, your BELIEF. The 'hatred' comes from the Christian arrogance that just because YOU believe, then God must exist for me as well even if I don't believe. A belief exists solely in your head. Just because millions of people share that belief does not, in any way, make it valid.

I am an ex-Christian and an Atheist. To make a long story short, I left the faith because I came to the realization that my religious beliefs were based on nothing but ancient myths and lies, and that there is no evidence for the existence of a god. "His love" is based on myths, not in reality. It's not any more real than he is.

Just imagine you'd never heard of religion. You see mysteries all around, and you don't know what they are or how they came about.

So somebody tells you that an invisible superman who lives in the sky is responsible for it all.

Doesn't that sound ludicrous to you? Especially given that there are other explanations, with actual evidence to back them up.

It's really that simple. God is a ridiculous explanation. It has no evidence, and plenty of reasons to suspect that it's a human invention.

There is so much evil in the world, terrible natural disasters, diseases. Where IS God, anyway? Is He/She asleep at the wheel? Do we blame all bad things on people's mistakes, or does God get to take some responsibility.

Therein lies the source of godlessness.

"I dont want people to think this is stereotypical, but I don't understand why people dont believe in God?" - Because I have never been shown any compelling evidence for the existence of your "God".

"Why don't they see His love?" - Because a nonexistent being cannot love.

"Why do people hate?" - You tell me. Why do some Christians hate those who don't believe? And don't say that they don't. They seem to rejoice in the prospect of infidels frying like bacon for all eternity (in God's mercy).

I'm Christian, and I feel that when you ask questions like these, it really pushes people away. Most people just want absolute truth with real evidence. I don't blame them. When you think about it, Christianity is something that is really big to commmit to on basically no scientific evidence. They don't call it "faith" for nothing.
