The answer is if you really want a second dog and are committed to exercising it and spending time with it as much as your first dog. Then yes, your dog would probably love having a companion. If your dog is a male, get a female or visa versa (and make sure both are spayed and neutered). These pairings work best in the long run. Also make sure obedience training and house training on your current dog are rock solid. The new dog will follow the lead of the old dog and you want to be sure it learns the right things.

Introducing a 2nd dog is a great way for you to get rid of some of the dog's energy, it would be a good playmate for the dog and if it had another dog to play with then they would both be less energetic and most dogs get along much easier if they have a friend

Two! We had one, and debated for awhile about getting a second one. We felt bad when we left the one dog home alone, and we thought he would love to have a friend. We finally went for it, and it was the best decision! They are best friends, and they entertain each other. I don't feel as guilty when I go out and leave them home because they play with each other. It's just more food to buy and more money spent at the vet. That's really the only con!
I think your dog would love it! Good luck!

If you can maintain the activity level, vet care and day to day care of two dogs, I don't think it's a problem. I have three dogs at home. The amount of work is not much different from having one dog. It's more fun to see three of them to run around and play with each other.

I had a mother golden retriever AND her son. They were so close and loved each other very much. I miss them deeply!! Just can not express it enough. They were inseparable!!
Yes, do it. If you can afford the extra love and joy in your lives, and can devote the time and energy to give to two, then you are a savior to dogs!! Your present little canine friend will love the company, companionship, playmate, communicator "in doggie language", and comfort of having a close bud. It's just like having a devoted spouse or sibling, or friend. Yes, yes, yes.......give the love to another canine out there that can use it so dearly!!!
My deepest blessings to all of you!!! I'm excited for you, and them!! Urf!! Smiles!! =)

2 after my dog was 3 I decided to get another one. If $$ is not a problem got ahead. Just remember thats 2 vet bills, twice the food, treats, and if you vacation 2 dogs to take with or board.

Two dogs are hard to handle. First are you able one? Is he well trained? The second thing is that two dogs means that the second dog won't bond with you as much. Make sure that you are bonded with your first dog so that you stay close when a second dog comes along. Otherwise a second dog could help the energy problem. Plus when you're away your dog will have a buddy.

We had two dogs, but ended up giving our older dog (12 y/o lab mix) to my husbands parents. We thought we were fine with just one dog, but we missed having a second dog and so did our other dog who grew up with the older dog. We got a newf puppy and they just love playing together! I would totally recomend it! We are actually planning on getting a 3rd, but we are waiting until the puppy grows up and finishes his basic training classes (which I think benefit me more than him, but that's another story!)
I totally think 2 is better because there are times when you can't play with your dog for some reason or another, your dog doesn't understand, but when you have 2 they can play with each other! I love multi-animal households and defenitly roccomend them if you have the time and $$ for it!

Two Dogs Rock!!!
They keep each other company, and the old one helps train the new one!! I rescued a 6month old pit/lab 6 months later a 6 month old red nose pit they love each other to death and there is nothing more to do besides add another food and water bowl. Your dog will love you for giving him/her a companion while you are away at work!
Good Luck!

Well, you have to think about it: do you trust your dog to put up with a puppy? Do you have enough space for it? Also, can you pay for it? (which you answered) i had to go through this decision with my dogs, and decided to get him any way and it turned out good they are very compatible. They are opposites but they get along well. But, you can't make a decision with my success, every dog is different.
