I don' think my bi polar is a bad thing and I do embrace it. I am just curious what others think about it. I was reading posts and just thought it was kinda funny lol. That people get so freaked out.

I'm Bipolar, too.

I think the people who post that sort of stuff are simply showing their ignorance. Sometimes, ignorance leads to fear.

We can only hope that people will come to accept us as just regular people who have an illness someday.

I'm bi-polar and I resisted taking medication for a long time.. I didn't want it to change my personality. What I wish I had heard back then would be the advice that...... "it doesn't do anything that you can't change back." Say you get on a medication--- and you do become a "zombie" well, then you know that the medication isn't for you... you can always go back to how you are now by going off the medication... it's just a trial run. And, obviously, you could have good results with the medication. I've been on several different kinds of bi-polar medications and the only one that made me like a "zombie" was Geodon at a high dose. (I currently take Geodon at a low dose of 40 mg). But, you know, it's experimentation with different medications and getting the right med mix for you. As far as your diagnosis----- I would get a second opinion. Also read up on bi-polar, could that be your symptoms? I also take Lamictal 200 mg... it's okay. I don't really notice a lot of difference from it, but the doctors love to prescribe a mood stabilizer. I notice a mild improvement. Geodon is the big one for me-- I get great results from it to combat mania. I never have a problem with that when I am on that 40 mgs of Geodon. I also take Abilify 10 mg for depression.. it's okay.. not that great, but not horrible either. But learning about bi-polar is a process.. get another doctor's opinion. you need to be comfortable with the process.. and who knows-- maybe you are bi-polar, but maybe you are not? If you try the medication, you can always go back. I usually would try a medication for 4-6 weeks before giving up on it and working with the doctor with new medications. ~good luck to you~

No. People with bipolar are not dangerous to anyone except themselves! It does not scare me at all, I have several friends who are diagnosed as having it...some I agree with, some not so much. But there are two kinds anyway. And the only thing that gets me about it is that they tend to be very medication non-compliant...which basically means they shoot themselves in the foot. Lots think that after they are stable and on good meds that they are fine and can go off the meds because they are 'better'. But, of course, this is just an illusion and they are soon caught in the horrible downward spiral of the disease and have to get stable again. And that takes time and energy on everyone's part. And that is the only thing that sometimes makes them hard to deal with. Otherwise, they are great and often understanding people.

no I do not find people with bi-polar scary, this could be REALLY biased though, because I have a mental disability myself- I have borderline personality disorder( BPD) which is harder to treat with meds, people know even less about, and even my friends who are mentally disabled find scary to be around when I am having symptoms. I know from having friends who are bi-polar that it is an organic illness- treatable well with the right medications, if you take them and are on the right one(s), the mania( and maybe even the hypo-mania) can almost completely stopped. It manifest differently in different people. When people are manic and experiencing symptoms, like any of the mental disabilities(schizophrenia, personality disorders, your illness, OCD, panic attacks, etc) it becomes hard for anyone who doesn't understand that particular disorder to be around them because they see a change from how is person when they are okay, to when they are having symptoms( in your case mania or depression). It is a mix of not knowing why this is happening to someone they know/care about, and fear for their own safety because they might not know all about it, or even if they do, they still have to put themselves first. Try to ( when you are in the right mode ) talking about the symptoms to your friends that you think will understand. If they dump you or don't try to it is their loss- this illness is not your fault and is manageable. Good luck!

Bipolar is a mental disorder that is highly treatable and manageable....nothing to be scared of..maybe those who let their bipoar go astray and their situation got aggravated are may be the ones scary because of their uncontrollable anger and moodswings.....they abandon their medicine and counselling and made them worse.......this disorder should be taken cared of....they need support not only from their loved ones , friends, but most especially the people who are not familiar to this disease........people need to eb informed..people need to eb educated about this disease.......this disease is all about moodswings but can be dangerous if not treated that leads other people to be scared because they think he is insane....the fact that this world is really full of bipolars..I wouldnt be surprised if all people have , after all not all go to the doctors..and we only differ in levels and degrees of misfits and emotions...Bipolar shouldnt frighten anyone..instead they should be understood and loved.......

You'll find half the world is diagnosed with bipolar. It is these types of personality traits that keep life interesting. Don't fight it. Embrace it. It makes you you. If it gets out of hand then get some counseling or meds.

im not gonna lie to you when they first hear the word bi-polor the get a tad scared but those people soon learn to accept it or just **** off and become narrow minded people. accept who you are and don't hide its as much a part of you as any other personality trait. i think education is the key explain to people its not the plauge.
good luck. happy holidays.
