as Christians we cannot pick and choose. Jesus established a Church while he walked this Earth 2000yrs ago. To Peter He said "upon this rock i will BUILD MY CHURCH".."to you i give the keys to the kingdom of God, what you bind on Earth will be bound in Heaven, what you loose on Earth will be loosed in Heaven". Protestants need to stop mucking around and come back to the Church that Jesus authorised to teach in His Name. The Roman Catholic Church...praise Jesus not man-made churches.
EDIT: my apologies...i misread the question. however my answer still stands...but in addition i will have to state that Jesus cannot contradict Himself...when He left the ressurrected Lord told Peter "Feed my Sheep"..the "sheep" is mankind...all who chose to hear Peter's words and believe in it as if it was coming from Himself are of His Church. He told this to Peter as the temporal and visible head of His Church.
People have the right to pick and choose their beliefs but not Christians. For christians there is only one choice...The Roman Catholic Church.

I choose a church where I believe the focus is on God and the Word of God. All this other "seeker friendly" stuff is fluff. I would rather the preacher teach the Bible and preach the Gospel and not be afraid if the cross of Christ is offensive to some. Nor do I want my church to take down the cross and mix the Word of God with other religions. I go to church to be fed the pure Word of God. If they can't do that, I find another church. I am in the process of finding another church now.

If Jesus was to tell me that I had to be a part of a church, then He would also tell me which one.
and the reason I belong to the Church that I do, is because that is where God lead me.

I would choose the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Why? Because I believe it is the living church of the Living God, who has restored divine priesthood power to the earth, in these latter-days before the Saviour's Second Coming. We live by prophecy, and we feel the Spirit on a daily basis (when we live by the teachings of the Saviour), because of this restoration of truth and priesthood power. It contains all the truths and divine ordinances necessary for the salvation and exaltation of the children of God.
I love to learn and grow, and this church really helps me to do that.

I don't want to seem harsh, but all of this is in the Bible:
If you're a Christian, then by definition, you are part of THE Church.
If you mean how should you select a denomination or congregation to join, then read your Bible and use it as a benchmark against the preaching.
After reading your question, I've got to ask a more fundamental question: Why do you think that you're a Christian in the first place?

I would choose a church that teaches full gospel, that is they believe in signs and wonders following those who believe (Mark 16) they believe in healing and the gifts of the spirit, annointing people with oil, tongues and interpretation of tongues, prophecy and so on. I would attend a church that seeks God on their face in prayer and asks for his direction and does not rely on the will and minds of men. They would believe that the wisdom of God is superior to men's wisdom and seek his face according to the book of James.
In my experience this would most likely be a Pentecostal church, Assembly of God or Foursquare.

Jesus and Bible based is my requirement. I would make sure these two points it the Churches focus that I belong to. The message would have to be accurate to God's word.

Hello, Angel Eyes:
I'd choose the one that the Bible calls its members "Saints."
Satan wages war against it because they "keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ" (Revelation 12:17).
If you break the Bible code at http://abiblecode.tripod.com, it will tell you more characteristics to look for and God will lead you to it.
Shalom, peace in Jesus, Ben Yeshua

If I were a christian I suppose I would be go to a Unitarian Universalist church. I like their ideas about tolerance and recognizing that everyone has an equal right to believe in what they find to be true.

The church I belong to already... duh! LCMS... translated: Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. Why? It's the closest to the Word and Scriptural Doctrine.
Which NOT to choose? Mormonism, JW's, Rastafarian, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, ... shall I go on?.... WHY? Cuz it's NOT LCMS!
Have a blessed day.
